Sunrise Mart is the best Japanese specialty food shop in Manhattan. They have a bigger and better selection of fresh foods than the more common JAS Mart chain, while also having a good stock of Japanese packaged goods. Their selection of these is also broader than JAS Mart, although I do find that particular items do tend to sell out from time to time. They also have a video section, personal care products and sell traditional Japanese tableware. This store is excellent for those who are into Japanese stuff in general, are knowledgable about Japanese food or have spent time in or are from Japan. I was introduced to the place and have been a regular customer since I lived with someone from Okinawa over a decade ago.
