I had some good memories of going to this thrift store when I was little - my mom loved bargain and collectible hunting - so I stopped by to see what they had. The store was a disappointent, unfortunately. It was narrow, cramped, and dingy with a 1970's feel to it, and the items seemed almost wilted. It was fairly busy, though, so they must be doing something right. Maybe it was just the comparison from the store the way it was before and the way it is now?
The prices seemed fairly reasonable, and there was a wide variety of stuff available including a lot of kid's clothing and videotapes and books. Lots of kitchen items, too. The people were friendly and talkative, and were conversing with some of their regular customers like they were old friends.

I remember the Mall from when I was very little. It seemed dark and dingy, although it was an exciting adventure to me to go there.
They've had quite a facelift since then. The fountain is stil lthere, but the floors, the lighting, and everything else has been given an updating and new color scheme. I like the floor tiles and the benches, and the softer lighting fixtures.
Shops in the Mall come and go. Everything seems to be trending towards either food or clothing, and all of the clothing is trending towards skinny little young people. What's a plus-size girl to do?
I miss the bookstores that used to be there, and some of the other variety shops. Even Rite-Aid went away.
Still, good places would include Lenscrafters, Sears, JCPenney, the gaming store, and several others.
The Mall is well laid out, with "You are Here" boards placed at strategic intervals. There may be too many carts in the middle of the aisles, though - another recent trend. Sometimes it can be a little hard to navigate.

Downstairs were many many different kinds of slot machines, far too many to remember and list here. I'm not a gambler, I was just there with some other people, so I didn't play them, but the atmosphere was highly-charged and the general mood seemed upbeat and excited. I'm sure that winning would be a thrilling experience!

One night I thought my little kitty needed medical attention, and the only place open was this one. I brought her in, and they saw her right away. Fortunately she was actually all right, but if she had not been I feel sure they would have taken care of her. They were kind and caring towards her, soothing her fears and making jokes about the amount of noise she was making. They didn't even charge me full price, since there was really nothing wrong with her.
The lobby is large and clean, and the people are all friendly and caring. I definitely would go again if I had a night time emergency.

K-Mart on 6th Avenue is one of the last remaining K-Marts in the state. Perhaps it's because they're so similar to other stores like Target and Fred Meyer, with the lack of customer service and available staff working against them. There's almost never anyone at the checkout counter so you often have to stand in line right next to five empty checkout stands.
However, they do carry some useful and reasonably-priced items. I go out of my way to go there for cat litter, since theirs is the best-priced I have found.

Alpine will make house calls, very important when you're in a bind and need help right now without delay. They carry various parts and accessories, too.

I've often found that "Last Stop" is a place to stop first when looking for a computer part or a bit of advice. The people are knowledgeable, and often have older parts for a cheaper price than a lot of the other computer stores do.
The shop is located inside of a small house on 6th Avenue. (They converted the entire house and don't live upstairs.) It's not far from their original location just up the block. They have wheelchair-access as well.

I took my kitten there once, when she had hurt her paw, and I was very displeased with the way she was treated. The vet on duty was rough with her, needlessly scaring her with the way he grabbed and forced her down on the examining table and later on the x-ray table. He seemed not to have any feeling for small kitties, or consideration for her fear of him and of her strange surroundings. His attitude appeared to be, let's get this over with and stop complaining." I protested, and he was short with me as well.
It may just have been one particular doctor who was on duty that day, and may not apply to all of them, so I would investigate first before taking any of my animals there again.

Advanced Stream is extremely responsive to problems, and if the server goes down or the email stops working, you can just pick up the phone and call them. Real live people will answer, although only during working hours. They fix problems quickly. The prices are competitive.
I could have faster cable if I were willing to pay more, which I'm not, but that's really my only complaint. These guys are worth checking out.

The Starbucks on Proctor is a nice change from the other Starbuck-clones, it's on a corner and has an outdoor cafe-style area in which to eat. Inside, it's very narrow and there's not much room to walk around unless you are a skinny-minny, but it is pleasantly-lit and has a homey feel to it.
I tend to stay away from Starbuck-clone shops, but I do like this one.
