Ok, this is the ONLY palce that I stand in line for anything. Yes, for $2.00 I will stand in line down the block in the middle of August for 2 hot dogs and a tropical drink from Gray's Papaya. I don't care what anyone says, it's worth it. And if you think I'm nuts, you have never had a gray's papaya.
Oh, these are the hot dogs that in the movie "Fools Rush In" Selma Hayek had flown across the country for her husband. No joke.

Before I get stoned for saying that, please go have some of the bite-sized burgers they serve here. First off, White Castle gives me heartburn of the worst kind, yet I love the small size. There has to be a reason for that, since I have never had heartburn after eating here. You can tell the meat here is fresh, and the burgers are made to order. Even with the style this place has, the prices are reasonable.

I have spent some time in California and I say this to say that I have been to InNOut buger. Now, I had a burger from here before I left and then had the orginal InNOut burger, and it was the same thing. When I came back here to get one, I was soooo unhappy to see that something had gotten horribly, horribly wrong. If you've never had an InNOut burger, they are very basic. The menu is short, but distinguished and not expensiv,e but I am tempted to have a double double sent out here so they can get back on track. Then, it will change the rating back to the 5 it should be at.

I love the tavern feel, and regardless who I bring here, they ocan find what they like and we eat in happiness (ok, except for the wait, but hey, I'd rather wait for good food than bad). They also get their pie from a great place downtown (I can't remember the name, I am too busy shoveling pie in my face to remember).

Yes, the food is good, but you have to try hard to find awful food in the City. You are paying for the legend and the atmosphere, which has nothing to do with food in my opinion.

They make their fries PERFECT here (crispy and hot- which I normally have to ask for) and God help me, their beer is inexpensive, too (be careful of that).

But that's a good thing, because they concentrate on the food, and not on the neon signs and the other stuff that doesn't matter. This is a no frills place and the food really shows it...and I mean that in a very, very good way.

And even a vegan or someone watching their weight can be happy here, which shows how much they think about what they serve up.Which is why they serve smoothies made of Hagen Dazs frozen yougurt.
