Red Fox is open late and has a great atmosphere. There's a piano bar that's inconsistently staffed. It adds a wonderful warmth to your meal, and I do call before going to the Red Fox to see if someone is playing that night. It's so rare to find this at a restaurant anymore. The steaks are all great, however, the New York Strip and Top Sirloin are particularly good. My steak is always done to perfection. You can have various rubs and seasonings added to your steak, but I recommend getting it cooked without any extras and then eating it with a wonderful side of the horseradish sauce.

I always had a THING about cleanliness as a child. Did I have OCD or something back then? I don't know, but I sure do now and I think my crappy experiences at bad hotels my parents would book on trips may have heightened my...uh...thing.
We stayed at the Excalibur during a family reunion about five years ago, after being on immune suppressive medication for a year. YUCK was it nasty! Well, to me all of Las Vegas is kinda nasty. The hotel's lobby is taaaaacky, crowded and smelled of cheap cigars. It was so bad that my lungs and eyes were burning from the smoke--and a hotel's lobby is supposed to be its show piece!
As you can imagine, it did not get better when we went up to the room. The carpet was crusty and God knows what kinds of stains were hidden in its dark colouring. The beds were nasty--again, dark bedding. I was in utter agony the entire reunion. Gives me the heebies just thinking about it now.

If I had to choose between Polish sausage and Italian sausage, I'd definitely go for the Polish (with the exception of pizza toppings, of course). I'm not a big fan of store-bought polish sausage like Hillshire Farms or whatever big name brand is in the meat section. I like the "homemade" variety found at my favourite delicatessens.
For the ultimate Polish Sausage, visit Pink's on the corner of Melrose and La Brea in smeLA, California. You'll not only get a great sausage or dog, but you may even see a celebrity. It's said to be quite a hot spot for sightings. Though I doubt Jessica Alba is all that big on the sausages... Hmmm... Or maybe she is.

Hash House is all about generous portions and comfort food menu items. Their specialty is breakfast, and it's available all day long. Their omlettes are HUGE and are served with their trademark hashbrowns. The hashbrowns are made to order, and are consistently crisp and spiced just right with salt and a touch of paprika. While the menu isn't "adventerous", it does cover all the traditional American-fare. Sometimes it's just nice to go to a restaurant with familiar favorites, especially when the weather's chilly. The prices are just right too.

The food at El Agave is authentic Mexican cuisine. Their sauces and tortillas are homemade, and the salsa is chunky and fresh. The wait can be long on a weekend, and the prices for all of this are not cheap. I do love the food here, and would recommend taking it go, as the staff leaves much to be desired. They are consistently rude and inattentive at the table. Each time I've eaten in the restaurant, it's guaranteed that I won't receive timely refills, and have to wait forever before even getting waited on.

This is not the most authentic local restaurant in San Diego. However, the food is better than average, and what really sets this place apart are the hours of operation. Taco Fiesta is open 24 hours a day, making it readily available whenever you have a Mexican craving that needs to be satisfied. The simple foods are the best here; things like hard shell tacos and chicken burritos. The meats are fresh, however, I'd stay away from the pork entrees. I've found the meat to be tough and old tasting.

Rei Do Gado: The Brazilian BBQ isn't the only hot thing there!

I have eaten at Rei Do Gado more times than I can count. VERY Low carb friendly for those of us following that 'lifestyle.'
Out of all the Brazilian BBQs I've been to in San Diego County, Riverside County and San Francisco, this is the best! For thirteen dollars and some change, one gets great variety at the salad bar/meal accompaniment spread AND some really amazing meats during lunch hours. My favourites are the bacon wrapped filet mignon, the chicken and the delicious sausage. You gotta try the sausage! It's just the right consistency of coarsely ground meats and perfect balance of spices.
After you've stuffed yourself silly to that point where you're kinda worried (know what I mean?), try the Brazilian flan. It's great! Oh, here's a tip for stuffing yourself silly: don't drink water, drink soda. Soda burping gives you some surprise reserve space to make that thirteen bucks and change well worth it.
Once you've decided you can't possibly have another bite, then I suggest taking a restroom break before leaving and then spend the next hour walking around the lovely Gas Lamp District of San Diego.

I think Phil's BBQ has some good menu items. Good grilled chicken, ribs, pulled pork sandwiches are okay... Great seating area in the back is its major plus. What I'd like to clear up for the good people of San Diego is this: Phil's BBQ is NOT BBQ. Barbecue, my friends, is low and slow smokin' with tenderness and lovin'.
What Phil's does is lightly smoke their ribs in some back room until its an ugly grey colour, then take it out front to be grilled and slathered with an obscenely hot and sweet glow in the dark red bbq sauce. To those of us who have experienced good low and slow BBQ in Bandera, Texas, Carolina mustard based Q or Memphis' best rib, I think you all know what I'm talking about. To those of you who don't know, then yes, try Phil's... then take a drive up the Five (I-5) to Encinitas when you've got time and try Big Jim's Old South Bar-B-Q. It's the closest thing we've got to good Q in San Diego.
Tip: Sometimes Restaurant.com has gift certificate 60% off restaurant coupon codes where you end up spending $4 for a $20 gift certificate. Big Jim's is one of the restaurants listing certificates on that website. It's a good deal!

Hooters is my answer. They really do have great wings! I especially like the breaded ones, buffalo sauce on the side.
I hear Trophy's is good too, but I don't dig it. Hmmm... How about the Pelican Bar and Grill? I THINK that's in Mission Valley...
