Between Sheridan and Fullerton, the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Red Line has been extremely slow in the last couple of months. This is due in part to construction by DePaul University at the Fullerton stop, in part because they ALWAYS seem to be working on the tracks lately, and in part because of mystical, cosmic forces that conspire to make sure you're late to whatever you're trying to get to.
My recommendation - when traveling during the day on the North-side Red line, allow at least thirty five minutes of travel time between Sheridan and Fullerton. You'll be on time and probably, less angry at the CTA, which makes the commute better for everyone.

When coming to Noodles in the Pot, you only need a few things - less than $10, and an open mind for FRESH Asian food, rather than mostly americanized, greasyfried "chinese" food so many of us are accustomed to. The spring rolls, served with either the plum or the peanut sauce, are JUST fresh vegetables with a wrap around it, cut into segments. I think it is wonderful, and I am a junk-food junkie. Also, their curry and their pad thai are AWESOME.

Parrot's Bar and Grill is absolutely one of my favorite bars. Cheap beer and drinks, older crowd that is completely NOT college-oriented, and it will only take a couple times going there before the bartenders (of which there are two in total) know your name. The beer selection is really trim, but they do have $6 pitchers on Sundays!

To the hot dog connoisseurs of the world, Branko's should be a welcome home. Their Chicago-style hot dogs are second only to the late Demon Dogs, but their style is a bit different, anyway. The dogs themselves are big and they put entire half-slices of tomatoes on the sandwich for you. Also, their Gyros are HUGE. Absolutely gigantic, and delicious. I absolutely recommend Branko's for good, cheap hot dogs. Plus, there are free fries with most orders!

Located conveniently by the university campus of DePaul, this is a favorite of students in Lincoln Park. But I just don't know why. They're open until 3am, but the burritos are tasteless and have made me sick nearly every time I eat them, and I have a stomach of steel! The service is good though, but they don't have fountain sodas, as many taquerias do not, and it's not even that cheap. Avoid.

Sultan's Market on west North street has wonderful food of the Jewish, Arabic and Turkish persuasion. The curry rice is wonderful, and all of their fettia are fabulous. And it's cheap, incredibly so. I paid five dollars for tabbouleh & jerusalem salad, rice curry, and an egg and cheese fettia. Absolutely worth checking out if you would like a cheaper, but still delicious, alternative to some of the more expensive middle-eastern restaurants.

Pizza Rustica is a wonderful, inexpensive little Italian restaurant off the Sheridan Red Line El stop. During the weekdays it is fairly slow, so it is easy to get a table. The pizza is crusty, thin and extremely fresh-tasting, but it's not too greasy at all. The pasta is fairly standard pasta-type pasta, with different good sauces, none of them too fattening. The salads are fairly boring but still very tasty. What really makes Pizza Rustica stand out is pretty much the pizza, which is excellent.

The Taqueria off the Sheridan Red Line El stop is much better than other late-night Mexican restaurants, because it is inexpensive, the restaurant is clean, and number one, the food is wonderful! Ordinarily, it is a great place to stop by on the way home, because they have cheap burritos, tacos and other standards, but their platillos, while being naturally a bit pricier than tacos, etcetera, are wonderful. The best Fajitas I've ever had!
When in the Buena Park neighborhood, avoid the other Taquerias - trust me! and go with the Taqueria Caminos De Michoacan II.

At Argo Tea, there truly is something for everyone. The tea is second to none with a gigantic variety of loose teas, everything from your basic black teas, green teas (yes, there are multiple varieties!), the elusive and extremely healthy white teas, and a huge variety of tisanes (herbal teas, like Chamomile, Jasmine and Rooibos) and flavored teas of all of the above.
Teas aside, they have a full coffee bar where, if not a "tea person," you can cappuccino, latté, and brevé to your heart's content, with illy, the world's best and most consistent coffee. Did you know that Illy invented espresso and the espresso machine? The coffee is never burnt and the lattés are fantastic.
Even on top of the basic tea and coffee, there's more! The Chai and Chai Latté at Argo is like an art form; actual loose tea is used rather than some powder or mix, and the result, if a Chai fan, is phenomenal. Additionally, their Maté Latté is to die for.
And the PASTRIES, my lord the pastries! Most (the croissants, quiches and a few other things) are purchased from Sweet Thang bakery, and all the others (like chocolate cheesecake brownies and lemon blossoms) are also obtained from local bakeries to promote local business. Very cool, huh?
The reason I promote the Armitage location is simply that it was the first, and the only one that existed before July. The environment in Lincoln Park is completely different from those at the other two downtown locations (State&Randolph, Rush&Pearson) - cozy, small and incredibly well-suited to studying, newspaper reading, or croissant-ing in the morning on the way to work.
One drawback is that their expansion seems to be affecting the pastry selection, as I suppose some of the caterers simply cannot keep up any more with all of the demand with the new opening stores. The croissants and quiches, though, are not only staying, but they really and truly are the absolute best, most delicious, most easily obtained of their class.
Good luck! Even you can get excited about tea and a tea shop!
