The Taqueria off the Sheridan Red Line El stop is much better than other late-night Mexican restaurants, because it is inexpensive, the restaurant is clean, and number one, the food is wonderful! Ordinarily, it is a great place to stop by on the way home, because they have cheap burritos, tacos and other standards, but their platillos, while being naturally a bit pricier than tacos, etcetera, are wonderful. The best Fajitas I've ever had!
When in the Buena Park neighborhood, avoid the other Taquerias - trust me! and go with the Taqueria Caminos De Michoacan II.

At the Map Room, they have beers that even the most seasoned beer connoisseur will be stumped by. The atmosphere is warm but often crowded, but still fantastic. They have more beers on tap than I have seen at any bar, upwards of fifteen at a time, and more than 200 bottles at any given time, as well. Highly, highly recommended.

One of the first places in Chicago I really loved, The Gallery is an awesome bookstore. A ridiculous collection of sci-fi, while not perhaps your thing, is impressive to behold. They also have an extremely interesting collection of old, old magazines (including some very cool old Playboys), ranging anywhere from $10-? with rarity and posters included. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling, the aisles are narrow, but the shop itself is small, so I wouldn't recommend this to the easily claustrophobic. Still, though, they have a huge collection of musty books, and if that's the kind of thing that gives you comfort like it does me, then I cannot recommend the Gallery enough.

Red Carpet, by Peoria Notre Dame High School, is expensive (starting at $12), and every time I have brought the family minivan in, I've had to ask them to clean the back and to take care of a few other things as well. There are cheaper places and a ton of self-serve places as well where you'll know you're getting a good car wash.

This album, produced by Manu Chao (who co-wrote and performs on a few tracks), is one of the happiest I have heard since possibly Junior Senior's D-D-Don't Stop The Beat. Amadou & Mariam are a married Mali couple, both blind, who have been producing music for approximately thirty years. The album itself is difficult to describe, but if you appreciate well-done, extremely happy music, I can't recommend this enough.

Having attended for three years, I can say that I have found some of the most knowledgeable, empathetically academic people around. While a Catholic University (and the largest in the nation to boot), conservative it is not in the least. With the exception of not having any kind of condom program, the school is as liberal as they come, pushing diversity nearly to the point of annoyance. However, the result is great possibilities for open discourse and lots and lots of learning.
I'm unable to speak for most of the school of Commerce (which IS one of the largest in the country), but LA&S is a group that you will get to know quickly, and our Theatre and Music programs are absolutely some of the best in the country, comparable to Juilliard and other extremely well-renowned Fine Arts Universities.
Top that off with small class size, great and well cared-for facilities, a wonderful location in the heart of one of the safest neighborhoods in Chicago with accessibility to really everything, and a broad spectrum of people, and I'd say you've got a fabulous institution of higher learning.
One drawback, however, is that DePaul has more than doubled in size in the last ten years, and as a result, the office tango has not quite been worked out yet. The bureaucracy and red tape is not quite under control, and though this is fairly minor, it can definitely be annoying at times.

Everyone goes on and on about the Funky Buddha for its famous Titillating Tuesdays and the extremely attractive lesbians that attend, but I was less than impressed. For one, drinks are extremely, extremely overpriced at about $8-$15 for a drink, with beer being only slightly less. The girls there are largely really snooty with an obvious buck or two to spend on their looks and clothes. Great dj, great environment, but crowded and not worth the trek down to Grand to be sneered at and pay no less than $30 for your OWN drinks. Recommendation: If you want to go, drink BEFORE you go and don't expect much from the other patrons.

I give it five stars because it is a five star restaurant, however the likelihood of my eating there or of anybody I know eating there is slim to none. It was five courses, cheese/olives/bread, antipasto, pasta, main course, dessert. All of it was amazing, and we were there for about three hours or so. You would think that with so much food you would be overwhelmed and stuffed by the end, but such is not even remotely the case, as they give you worlds of time between courses, and each course they bring is comfortably accepted. They have a huge wine selection, the service, of course, is out of this world, and basically everything about this restaurant is perfect, except for the fact that you've got to be prepared to spend around $50 per person, more with alcohol.

Pizza Rustica is a wonderful, inexpensive little Italian restaurant off the Sheridan Red Line El stop. During the weekdays it is fairly slow, so it is easy to get a table. The pizza is crusty, thin and extremely fresh-tasting, but it's not too greasy at all. The pasta is fairly standard pasta-type pasta, with different good sauces, none of them too fattening. The salads are fairly boring but still very tasty. What really makes Pizza Rustica stand out is pretty much the pizza, which is excellent.
