I was pleasantly surprised by the great vegetarian option at Grill 23 & Bar. They have a master chef who is simply amazing and will throw together a plate that includes anything you choose.
For example, I told my waiter that I was particularly interested in the asparagus and avocado sides listed as within the descriptions of other dishes on the menu. The chef included my selections and a number of other delectable veggie greats-- even fresh grilled peaches!
Also, the salads are terrific. I had the popular baby greens salad. Although it only has greens and goat cheese (no other vegetables), the salad is a great way to start any meal here. It has a unique balsamic house dressing that encourages you to actually finish the salad. The best part about it was the fact that the dressing wasn't too heavy. Sometimes, I worry about restaurants putting dressing on salad for me and order it on the side. But here, don't fear, it's a tasty treat.
I couldn't end a review of Grill 23 without mention of their excellent service. My waiter was a pleasure. He was attentive without being overbearing and made some great recommendations to the guests in my party.

Clio came highly recommended by a friend. I have to say, I vigorously agree!!! We started with the soft shell crab appetizer, which was fantastic and not chinzy on portions...I had the lobster for a main dish, which was completely out of the shell and in a sweet butter reduction. I was totally impressed...it was just the right amount of portions and completely delicious. My boyfriend had the swordfish and it was tender and very savory. The ambiance was nice and reserved, and it was an outstanding evening! For dessert, don't miss the warm chocolate pudding. A great wine selection is available.

My boyfriend had a XX (first for him) and he loved it, served ice cold with a lime.
For dinner, I ordered the grilled chicken enchiladas, stuffed with grilled chicken, fresh vegetables, and topped with some great guacamole. A side of rice, beans, and fresh vegetables accompanied them. My friends ordered the jambalaya with chicken, shrimp and sausage mixed with a peppers and onions medley and served over black peppercorn pasta. For dessert, we ordered two orders of the chocolate nachos, which is a specialty of Cottonwood. Chocolate mousse and white chocolate mousse are topped with fresh berries in a glass and along the glass are shortbread cookies that have been dipped in chocolate. The overall ambiance of Cottonwood was very nice. There is outdoor seating which seemed to fill up pretty quickly as the night went on. The tables inside are rather close together, though.

Caffe Vittoria is a charming little restaurant in a charming area. It makes a nice stop on its own or as an after-dinner treat following dinner in a North End restaurant. They serve desserts and Italian coffee in a charming setting. The restaurant is divided into several rooms and each has its own character. It looks like a collection of local goods the owners picked up over several decades of trips to Italy. The restaurant is much larger than it appears to be from the street. As you enter and go by the first tables, you quickly see that it goes on for quite a while. If you don't see a free table, walk in and keep going. You are bound to find something.
Caffe Vittoria is solely a dessert place. There are plenty of delicious Italian pastries to be had plus a very good selection of Italian ice creams. Small plastic menus reside on each table. Of course, you should also survey the pastry cases on your way in. If you don't see what you want on the menu, be sure to ask. Service is always good. It feels like a neighborhood joint and the servers act like locals.
There is almost no parking near Caffe Vittoria, although there are some parking lots about a 20 minute walk away. The best way to get to the area is to park in downtown or one of the lots by the water and hoof it. The area is charming so it won't feel like too much work. Besides, you DO want to walk off all of those calories.

If it's after 10PM and you've got a craving for shrimp chow foon, it might be a job for Chang's House. This outpost is one of Brighton's best answers for late-night hunger pains. The encyclopedic (seven-page, 183 items) menu is available until midnight (1AM on Fridays and Saturdays), offering a choice of eating Szechuan, Hunan, Cantonese or Mandarin. Chang's chefs are especially adept at Mandarin specialties like hot and sour soup and General Tsou's chicken. Also appealing is the wide assortment of dishes for vegetarians -- among them tofu with black bean sauce, sauteed string beans and vegetable lo mein. One look at the antiseptic dining room and you'll understand why Chang's isn't known for its atmosphere. With only a $1 fee for delivery, however, you may never need to step foot in here.

By far, the greatest bar experience one could have is spending a night at Foley's. There is no other place to be to find a more diverse crowd getting along so well while being utterly gonzo on liquor. Best example I can give you of who you might see there is this: One night to my left was a woman studying astrophysics at Boston University. To my right was a man who told me about how he used to wrestle Bruno Samartino! The management is as good as it gets. This is a "must go to" establishment. If you want to know what Boston is all about, this is the place to be.

When it comes to great barbecue, you have to know where to look if you want hickory smoked meats and fall-off-the-bone ribs like you had that one time in Texas visiting your Aunt Sally. This place is decorated with Stetson hats and framed images of cowboys, all basking in the glow of Tiffany chandeliers. There's a full bar with all kinds of libations to wash down those ribs.
Day and night, diners order takeout from the small counter or settle into the booths to enjoy such favorites as chunky pulled pork or lean spare ribs that have been slightly crisped on the outside but remain moist and tender on the inside. The meat is marinated for five hours or more, and each of Pete's signature recipes have been perfected over the years. Ribs are cooked with oak and hickory, chicken with applewood and pulled pork is slathered in Pete's own dry rub of herbs. With the quality of the meat, it's easy to overlook the inventive side dishes: homemade mashed potatoes, frosted sweet potato biscuits, sweet baked beans, or a medley of Asian bites, like a vinegary slaw.

The key thing about the B-side, as far as drinking goes, is the diversity of drinks you can get. It ranges from top shelf martinis all the way to ice cold bottled Schlitz.. It's mostly a hipster type of bar, but even those over 30 will feel at home here. Barkeeps & waitstaff will make the most common of customers feel at home.
The menu changes about every two months, and there's a late risers' brunch on Sunday, too.

Texas Roadhouse's entrees are named things like "Chicken Critters" and "Road Kill" (a chopped steak), so the kids should get a kick out of it -- they can even join the "Roadhouse Ranger" club hosted by Andy the Armadillo.
Complimentary warm rolls are served with sweet butter, and you are invited to "load" your potato or add a "sidekick" of ribs to your meal. And if, heaven forbid, you're trying to eat healthy, there are salads and a few other healthier selections. Texas Roadhouse has won awards for its steaks and barbecue, so they're serious about good food. Just try not to laugh while ordering your order your "Sassy Sauteed Onions" and a "Big Ol' Brownie."

This place has it down just right. The price is right and the size is too! The service is great and the atmosphere is dark, laid back and out-of-the-way. Best burger in Beantown, they cook them red in the middle, charred on the outside. This is the USDA-approved trifecta deal: burger, fries and a coke.
