What I truly loved about this restaurant is the personalized attention and wonderful dishes. A true sampling of Italy's many regional specialties, this restaurant's pasta is all homemade, and the second course dishes consist of gourmet game and seafood, prepared to perfection. The staff is very attentive and great with recommending tasty choices. The atmosphere is very romantic, with a fireplace and brick interior. It's on the second floor, so the street noise doesn't bother you. Make reservations, because space is limited. Their wine selection is also wonderful. They do offer an option to choose a sampling of dishes for you as an alternative to your own choosing from their menu. All in all, you cannot beat the experience.

No-one in my office knew the place...but I thought that it would still be worth a try and it was worth the visit. Dinner started with some red wine and an ample serving of bread and butter. The house salad was large, crisp and clean, with my dressing on the side, as I had asked. It was basically tomatoes, carrots and lettuce, but that did the job. We didn't have any appetizers, but probably should have. They looked delicious as they were being carried by. We had the veal or chicken debate and the veal won. Both the veal marsala (his) and veal parmesan (mine) were tender and delicious. The portions were just about the right size and came with a small bowl of Ziti in a red sauce. The service was impeccable and the ambiance was perfect. It isn't as fancy as many other north-end places, but it's old world style atmosphere makes up for it. Have the spumoni for dessert and roll yourself home.

Radius is the real deal. Located in the heart of Boston's Financial District, so around noon, the power lunches begin. At dinner, there are still some suits present (partially due to the after work bar scene).
Each table gets a bread basket with warm bread. The menu usually includes a selection of fish, shellfish, pork, beef, game and poultry, but there is most likely a vegetarian option. The presentations are artistic (with sauce swirl decorations). The portions are very small, which can be good because the desserts are amazing. There is a bar and very long wine list.
The service is subtle and top notch. The decor is full of wood and there is a stylish feel.
You can get the full menu at the bar tables. Dinner has a different feel since they turn down the lights and put candles on the tables for a more romantic feel.
The restaurant takes reservations and are necessary for lunch and dinner. Really, this restaurant is top notch. Dinner is perfect for a proposal.

I know Italian since my mother grew up down the street from a woman that immigrated from Italy and taught her how to cook.On the nights I don't want to cook, Pagliuca's offers the same great atmosphere, same great food and the staff (including the elderly owner). For a mere $6.00, I was served the most delicious meatballs I've had since my mother was alive.
And they do accept reservations...

This is the BEST dining experience I've ever had in my life, it was the most amazing experience. From the time we arrived until we went home the whole experience had a fantasy like feeling. First of all we had 5 waiters to ourselves, so we wanted for nothing. The food was all excellent, the service was beyond reproach. Some day, I hope to stay in the hotel because I've heard nothing but good things. This was my best restaurant experience ever! If you love being fawned over and made to feel like a princess, then this is your place!

Yummmmm...the thought of Cantina Italiana makes my mouth water! I tried this restaurant during one of my first Boston trips (I now live here year round). Anyway, I was looking for something average. I didn't want one of these cheap North End places where they pack you in like sardines and the atmosphere is loud and bustling. On the other hand, I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a plate of pasta and I wasn't dressed for anything fancy.
What I found was, indeed, the perfect solution...Cantina Italiana, of course! The interior of this restaurant is larger than many other North End (Boston's Little Italy) restaurants. They have booths and large tables and can accommodate fairly large groups.
The entrance area is cramped, but there is a small bar where you can sit and have drinks while you are waiting. Otherwise, it's not the coziest place to stand for your wait time so I advise you to make reservations. Not all restaurants in the area take reservations so this is a big plus! The decor is simple yet classy and Italian. Bread comes out very shortly after you are seated and often before you have even ordered drinks! Every time I have been here I have had excellent service. I have never been afraid to ask questions about the menu items either - they're very friendly!
Speaking of the food..amazing! Enough simple Italian staple dishes and enough unique choices as well. Perfect balance. The menu features include a large antipasta selection and four types of salads. Pasta choices include gnocchi (the best ever), lasagna, spaghetti with clams, and risotto with vegetables to name a few. Meat dishes include lots of choices for veal, chicken and seafood dishes...too many to name, although their website has a full menu so check it out. It should also be noted that there are few vegetarian menu choices, but many of the entrees could probably be prepared without meat. Entree prices range from $11.95 (Baked Ziti w/Eggplant) to $24.95 (Seafood Risotto). This is very reasonable and you will find that the food is worth the price.
I have not tried any desserts of wines at Cantina Italiana, but I know that they do have them on the menu. Mike's Pastrys is right down the street so ask your waiter to point you in the direction for amazing desserts.

I love this place! This tea place has great service with friendly servers and a cozy atmosphere. I am a tea and coffee lover, so I used to go there often in the middle of the day to read or have a cup of tea with some pastries.
This place is great for reading, talking, and having just a cup of tea. Their tables are kind of small, but it's not too bad to sit there to read or to talk to your friend. And it sometimes gets crowded, but that is acceptable. I love their Chai tea, and Mat-cha (Green tea) Smoothie (They have this only in summer.).

The Rio is one of the best Mexican places around the Boston area.
This restaurant is hardly ever busy and it is wonderful not to have to wait for an hour to get a great meal. It is a laid back atmosphere, great for families. My absolute favorite dish is a pulled pork burrito. Great dish, large portions (usually end up bringing home enough for lunch the next day), and wonderful side dishes. The nachos are also worth trying as an appetizer. Make sure you show up to the Rio with a big appetite!

It seems some portion of the population equates kosher with average or fairly tasteless. I'll be the first person to admit that there are both good and bad kosher restaurants but in general I think their food is well above average. Case in point: Shalom Hunan.
Shalom Hunan, located on Harvard Street not far from Coolidge Corner, is one of two kosher Chinese restaurants in Brookline. The other, Ta'am China, deserves the average appellation but Shalom Hunan is excellent by any standards.
They offer a wide variety of both meat and vegetarian appetizers including pan fried dumplings (with beef), chicken fingers, scallion pancake, vegetable tempura, chicken wings, and many others. They also have a wonderful Pu Pu Platter with chicken wings, chicken fingers, beef teriyaki skewers, scallion pancake, egg rolls, and fried wontons. It comes in a decorative wooden bowl with a small grill over an open flame in the center. Most individual appetizers cost between $5-$6 while the Pu Pu Platter runs $15. The true standout is Mango chicken. Large thin slices of chicken mixed with succulent slices of mango and some zucchini all liberally coated with a tangy mango sauce it's one of my all-time favorite dishes anywhere.
Shalom Hunan also offers the usual assortment of soups and also carries sushi. The soups are average but not spectacular. I'm not a sushi fan but my friends assure me that their offerings are quite respectable. The servings are large although perhaps not quite as large as they used to be. I'm usually part of a party of three to five and we usually get two or three entrees and have leftovers. Of course, we all get soups and share appetizers too.
The service at Shalom Hunan is consistently excellent. Water and tea refills are easy to come by and your server stops by periodically to make sure you're doing okay. I'm picky about service and I've never had any complaints.
The other common complaint against kosher food is that it's expensive. That one, alas, is usually justified. However, Shalom Hunan isn't that bad. On my most recent visit our meal for three was $64 with a very generous tip. $21 per person isn't horrible for a full meal at a nice sitdown restaurant, kosher or not.

The sidewalk tables are filled with a myriad of people, all of which come together here in a common purpose: the homemade ice cream is terrific. There is a medium sized selection (maybe 10-15 flavors) but everything is tasty. I recommend the mint cookie as well as burnt sugar.
It IS on the expensive side. But there are some thing in life worth the extra money...this is one of them.
