I know what you're thinking. What could he possibly have to say of interest about Whole Foods? Read on...
My wife and I went there the weekend before last to pickup catering dishes we had pre-ordered for a baby shower we were hosting that evening. We didn't order from Whole Foods by accident but rather because we generally like the quality of the food and the variety of selection. Upon arriving at this location to pickup our order, I quickly realized this Whole Foods was figuratively and literally thousands of miles away from the Whole Foods I've shopped at in San Francisco and Chicago.
In short, it was a freakin' mad house with aggressive cart drivers jockying for position down the aisles, long lines everywhere we looked, etc. While the quality of the food remained high and the selection increasingly vast, the experience was subpar. With Larry's, Metropolitan Market, and the PCC all within a reasonable distance from our house, we've got other alternatives at which we'll do our shopping going forward.

If you love the red meat then you will love Tango Sur. Although I've never been to Argentina, I imagine this place is as close to being an authentic Argentinian steak place as there is outside of Buenos Aires. The food is really flavorful, the portions are plentiful, and the ambiance is friendly and festive. It's a great place to take guests from out of town or meet friends for dinner.
It's BYOB, very popular, and they don't take reservations so plan accordingly.

Used to live up Southport from this place and ate there a couple of times. The food, drinks, and service were consistently good but not great for the price. Compared to the alternatives in the area, it's a solid choice but I wouldn't go out of your way to eat there.

I attended abenefit breakfast for Real Change this morning and I have to say I came away really impressed with what this organization is doing in Seattle. Real Change is the newspaper that vendors market and sell on the streets of Seattle, in front of your local grocery store, etc. If you believe as I do, that the best way to give folks a helping hand is to give them a sense of purpose and real rewards for doing good, then support Real Change in ways big or small. Make a donation or do yourself a favor and buy one the next time you get the chance. Not only is it for a good cause but also it's worth a read.

We just moved into our new house and have been hunting for quality furniture to fill the extra space. Standy's offers a pretty good selection of unfinished furniture and a few finished pieces as well. They source much of their product from the same manufacturers that supply Restoration Hardware and other high-end home retail stores. I spoke with the guy that runs the place (Standy himself perhaps although I didn't catch his name) and was impressed with his honesty and extensive knowledge. We ended up buying two oak bedroom dressers (finished) that we'll have forever and we got them at a pretty good price compared to what the same exact pieces sell for at Restoration Hardware. Check them out if you're in the market and in the area.

If you're looking for good deals on stylish, well-made modern furniture for the home, don't miss the Kasala Outlet in SODO. I think it's on 6th and Massachusetts SE of Safeco Field. My wife and I picked up a set of four dining room chairs for a fraction of what we would have paid at the retail store. There was a nearly imperceptible mark on one of the chairs which is why we were able to find them at the outlet. It can be hit or miss so be sure to go again if you didn't find what you were looking for the first time.

My parents have been taking their various cars to Hilltop for years and have always received reliable, honest, and fairly priced service. I don't know what makes/models they specialize in but my parents have taken a Honda, Volvo, and Infiniti there so I'd expect they could handle other European makes as well.

We no longer live in Chicago and boy do we miss Sweet Mandy B's cupcakes. They are simply the best in the city and worth a side trip if you're anywhere on the North Side. Delicious.
