I took guitar lessons there a few years ago and had a wonderful time. They offer both group and individual lessons that are targeted to the skills of the pupils. It's located in Fort Mason and there's plenty of parking which is a rarity in SF. What's more, the price of lessons is really reasonable. Look no further than Blue Bear if you're considering lessons or giving them as a gift.

In the heart of Andersonville, Alamo Shoes is a destination shoe store as far as I'm concerned. The salesmen (and I do mean men) have all worked there for decades and they know their stuff. Whether you've got your eye on a pair of Timberland, Kenneth Cole, or New Balance sneakers, Alamo will treat you right. They're always running specials and hustling to make sure you find the right shoes for your feet. When we lived in Chicago, this is the only place I'd by from and I actually looked forward to shopping for shoes thanks to them.

My wife and I loved going to Spiaggia's Cafe for dinner. The great thing about it is that the menu shares many of the the same items as the five-star restaurant that shares the same name but at a fraction of the pretense and cost. It's a small place so make sure you make reservations in advance. If you like Italian and are looking for a wonderful meal in a terrific location (on Oak and Michigan Ave at the top of the Mag Mile), I highly recommend this place. After dinner, head over to the Hancock Tower and up to the Signature Room for the best view in town.

I don't know why this is. Perhaps it was the cold snowy night I first walked into the warm, inviting confines of the Hopleaf or maybe it was the Flemish stew paired with a delightful Chamay Triple. In any event, I love this place and recommend it to anyone that's looking for a fun, laid-back night out on Chicago's northside. Since it's in Andersonville, it can be a bit of a trek to get there if you're coming from LP but it's an easy cab ride from Evanston or Lakeview. Simply put, Hopleaf rocks!!!

If you're in Fremont and in the mood for a terrific selection of Belgian beers and flemish food, then make a point to stop in at Brouwer's. What the place lacks in "curb appeal" it makes up for in spades when you step inside. A mellow Seattle-cool atmosphere complimented by a terrific beer list and good, simply prepared food. I loved Hopleaf in Chicago when we lived there and now I've found a solid substitute in Seattle.

The Inn at Langley is a terrific B&B located in a neat little town on Puget Sound not too far from Seattle. (It's not on the coast I know but it is seaside) Not sure what the pet policiy but it's worth calling them to find out.
Alternatively, you could head up to Port Townsend where there is a plethora of B&Bs from which to choose. Great beach combing etc. there too.
You can't go wrong with either town and I'd start with the one closer in. Good luck!

Judy's Book, Zillow.com, MPire, and Inrix had the second 5-Minute Jobbing event there on 12/8/05. The staff were extremely helpful, the food was good, and the selection on tap was terrific. On a summer day, the Red Door's deck becomes a hub of liesurely people watching and beer sipping. Check it out if you're in the area.

Ate there last night and had a good meal. No frills but the quality of the fish was pretty good and the service attentive. There are better places for sushi in the Seattle area but if you're on the East Side and jonesing for a little raw fish, Tokyo's not a bad bet.
