Montlake Ale House is great for families with kids. It's not exactly kid-focused but it's extremely family friendly and a great place to go if you've got kids in tow.

OK. Full disclosure is it's been years since I've been to Kells. The last time I think I was there was 2001 or so. Years. Given that major caveat, I still feel compelled to write a great review of the place. On a good night, the whiskey, wine, and stout flow and the patrons sing songs from the old country. I recall a song about a long necked goose or something but I digress. It's a fun place to stop for a drink or three on a dark and dreary winter night in Seattle. The spirit and Spirits will lift your, er, spirit.

OK, so the Queen Anne Starbucks is pretty much like any other Starbucks. The only slight difference is the scene. Lots of college students (SPU presumably) as well as young families. I've never been there when it hasn't been near or at capacity. That said, it's a pretty pleasant place to grab a cup of coffee and do some work.

If you're looking for basic drug store merchandise or to get a prescription filled it's fine but I'd rather shop elsewhere if given the choice

Every so often, it's a little off the mark but most of the time hilarity ensues. If you live in the Windy City or are planning a visit, find out what about the current show and get tickets. If you're a night owl, they also have free improv starting at midnights on Saturdays (I think).

The Whole Foods in Bellevue is terrific and gigantic. The only shortcoming is the parking situation. Given the size of the store and the Eastside's car-happy ways, you'd think they'd include a few more parking stalls. That said, Whole Foods in Bellevue rocks for the same reasons that Whole Foods elsewhere do. With the exception of Metropolitan Market, the quality can't be beat!

Elliot Bay Book Company is the best bookstore in Seattle. It really is a Seattle institution. Independently owned (I think) and operated by people that really know their books, it's a terrific place to while away a weekend afternoon with coffee in hand. It even smells like a bookstore should. Another thing I love about the place is the distinctive sound. Hundreds of people walking around on creaky wooden floors. Oh yeah, the selection is pretty darn great as well.

Every so often my wife and I would stop by the Goose Island Brewery near North and Sheffield for a pint and a burger. Rarely were we disappointed or blown away. In other words, the food is good but not perfect as is the beer. What it lacks in flair it makes up for in consistency. We always knew what to expect and we got just that. It's a good place to watch a game and hang out with friends over good bar food.
