Another terrific hotel in town is the Laurel Inn. Around 20 of our wedding guests stayed there and really liked it. It's close to the Presidio (where we got married), Laurel Heights, and not too far from Golden Gate Park and Pacific Heights. It's not in the downtown core so if that's what you're looking for for your wedding guests, then I'd skip it. If the location is good, then give them a call. Reserving a block of rooms for the wedding wasn't a problem and they were really accomodating in terms of gift bags in rooms etc. The rooms are pretty reasonably priced as well.

Jackson Court in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood is great. It's a really wonderful B&B with big rooms. Close to the Marina, close to Lafayette Park, close to Filmore, etc. Not only is it in a great location, but also it's really reasonably priced. My parents would always stay there when they'd come to visit us when we lived in SF. They also stayed there along with a bunch of their friends during our wedding weekend. Definitely give them a call and tell them you heard about it on Judy's Book!

A month ago, I ordered a fantastic chocolote cake from Macrina in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood. It was for my mother's birthday and she's a big cake and chocolate fan. She loved it and so did everyone else fortunate enough to grab a piece. Macrina is known as a terrific bakery in town and makes a mean birthday cake. You can't go wrong.

Last night I asked a question at Judy's Book about the restaurant Fork on Seattle's Capitol Hill and I promised to be back today with a full report. So, here goes...
The restaurant is located across the street from the Harvard Exit on Roy, just off of Broadway. After having a little trouble parking (it is CH afterall so plan accordingly) my wife and I met another couple there at 7:30 last night (a Thursday). We made a reservation the day before and didn't have a problem getting a table.
The restaurant isn't big. Maybe 10 tables all fitting snuggly inside a single warmly lit, cozy room. Judging from the tables in front of the restaurant, as the weather warms up it'll be possible to eat al fresco.
For starters, we each ordered a salad. Two people ordered the lobster salad, one ordered a frisee salad, and I had a "white" caesar. Others enjoyed theirs, while there seemed to be something slightly off with mine. Not sure what it was but it didn't have the crispness I associate with and look forward to in a caesar. Not bad, just not great.
My entree was really good. I had a NY strip that was done perfectly (medium rare). The portion size was just right. Others had halibut and duck. Prepared in french country style (that's what it looked like to me) each meal was flavorful and rich without being overwhelming. Oh yeah, the wine list was very strong with the best part being the prices. Very reasonable given the quality and variety from which to choose.
Fork is a really strong entrant onto the local dining scene and one to try out if you're in the mood for very good french food prepared and served in an intimate setting.

I ate at the OK Corral in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood a while back (years actually) and really enjoyed it. If you can get over the fact that the food is prepared and served basically in Otis's (I think that's his name) living room, the place has tons of charm and offers service with a smile. I read Brooke's review and that wasn't my experience at all. The two times I'd been there I asked for and got "The Hookup". A hodgepodge of cooked meats, greens, beans, potatos etc. Not saying it's the best BBQ in Seattle or the cleanest place but a good place to eat at nonetheless.

My Coffee House is an extremely kid friendly coffee shop in Seattle's Madison Valley. My wife and I took our daughter there on Saturday AM. While we ate delicious bagels (fed ex'd from NYC - not kidding) our daughter (the Shark in my profile pic) played with blocks, trains, and other kids in the spacious play area. It's a great place to spend a morning with kids.

Don't know how else to put it. If you enjoy preparing and eating Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian, or other Asian cuisine then there is no better place to shop (anywhere on the West Coast arguably) than Uwajimaya in Seattle's International District. My bet is that they'll have the green tea you're looking for there. Good luck!

When I lived on QA, I used to go to Targy's on a regular basis. It's a dive bar in the absolute best sense of the term. Located in a nondescript corner building on a nondescript street, Targy's delivers zero pretense, darts, old school video games, and much much more. Not sure if they serve hard alcohol or if it's just a beer and wine (boxed no doubt) joint. In any case, it's worth a side trip.

The Pampas Room is a pretty sweet old school jazz and dancing spot. It's located below El Gaucho in Belltown. I haven't been there in a few years (like a lot of the places in Seattle the kids go to these days) so you might want to get a second opinion. It's worth looking into though as in my glory days I had a bit of fun there sipping martinis and cutting a rug.
