Clarke's was an almost daily experience for me when I was a graduate student at Northwestern. It offers an ecclectic menu of inexpensive yet thoughtfully-prepared breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. Some mexican, some middle-eastern, and some good old American burgers with fries. It's also open into the wee hours - perfect break during an all-nighter.

Merles is a really good BBQ place in Evanston. Great for big groups. Not only are the ribs terrific (St. Louis) but also the sides are pretty darn good. It's a little on the spendy side for what it is but that shouldn't preclude you from giving it a shot if you're in the mood for some good BBQ.

Hey Peter. I don't have a great answer for you but I do have a suggestion. Give this Salvation Army store a try. I've made donations there in the past and think it's probably going to meet/exceed your needs. There also one up in Evanston on Chicago Ave that has a lot of clothes from which to choose. How do you like Chicago otherwise?

Everest is one of Chicago's best restaurants. In a city full of excelling dining options, that's saying something. Located on an upper floor in an office building in the Loop, Everest not only offers exquisitely prepared french food but also awesome views. You will pay a lot for the pleasure of eating here (figure $200 per person with wine and tip) but it's worth saving your pennies and treating yourself and someone special to a dining experience you will never forget.

Pretty much everything has already been written elsewhere about Charlie Trotter's famous restaurant in Chicago. A meal there is as close to perfect as one can get I think. It's also one of the priciest dining experiences around. The menu is prix fixe and the winelist offers the only choices you'll need to make for the evening. I've been there once (to celebrate a graduation and dad was paying!) If you live in Chicago or are planning a trip through the Windy City, I recommend making a reservation at Charlie Trotter's and celebrating something special. Just make sure you call months in advance otherwise you're probably out of luck.

It's been a while, but the Pink Door patio is always on the short list of best al fresco eating spots in Seattle. The food's good but the ambiance is better. Can't beat the location either.

Could be. I find the food here terrific. The Rachel is one of my all time favorite sandwiches in Seattle. Turkey Ruben. Genius. That said, every time I go here, I always get a fresh serving of attitude on the side. Not sure if it's just me or if others have had similar experiences here. Anyway, the food's good and the location is super convenient if you live in Fremont, Wallingford, or the UD.

Had some tricky copying work that needed getting done ASAP. Went to Office Max in Seattle's University District (just west of I-5 on 45th) and got fantastic help. It wasn't a ridiculously difficult job but it was the kind of task that would require a team of Kinkos employees to complete. Will definitely use Office Max next time I need copying or printing help.
