Little Jakes seems to also be known as Danny Edwards', as well, but whatever it's called, it is without a doubt a sensational lunch experience. Only open for lunches, they offer a daily "hardhat special," presumably aimed at construction workers, busy with the new Arena and H&R Block headquarters, in an effort to curry favor with them, as this great barbecue joint has come under the development knife, what with all the changes coming downtown.
The rib "sandwich" is a sandwich, in that it comes with bread, but it's really just a delicious excuse to eat mouth-watering slow-cooked Kansas City-style ribs.
The staff is attentive enough to get you in and out in no more than twenty minutes, hence the name, "eat it & beat it."
This is an essential piece of KC's barbecue heritage puzzle.

This is a bar with personality. The music is always excellent. There is a bohemian divey atmosphere that makes just about anyone feel at ease as they enjoy the cheap drinks and Trivia "Riot," every Friday night.
The Kansas City Cheesesteak is not to be missed, nor are the fantastic advertisement fliers for upcoming rock shows, found on every table.

An interesting mix of clientรจle make Jilly's a frequent destination for their Kansas City evenings. Named for a late friend of the late Frank Sinatra, Jilly's is never the same, from one night to the next. There is usually a cover on heavy nights, but they don't usually start collecting it until well after dark, so career flies shouldn't have any trouble.
Well worth the trip, almost any night of the week. Ask for the $2 "Jilly's Brew," which is actually just Leinie's Red.

This place originated as a coffee shop that just happened to serve lots of alcohol too. Then, they broke into the next building, and opened a bona fide coffee shop, serving some of KC's best breakfasts. The original bar area is still very much open though, but the espresso machines therein are still quite operational.
"The Cup," as it's locally known, is a great place to gather, at almost any time of the day or night, over a latte or a Boulevard Stout.

Kansas City loves its dive bars, and Kansas City definitely loves the Peanut. Tucked away on 9th St, next to a popular Mexican restaurant, the Peanut mostly attracts ever-increasing neighborhood residents, and doesn't see quite as much lunch or dinner business as nearby Tanner's or the Quaff.
A generous draught selection lines different corners of the back of the bar, and the shifty bartenders double as DJs, jockeying their own CDs, and occasionally fixing skips.
The Peanut is always a fun place to go, and proudly serves Kansas City's best BLT.

Seamlessly blending a 1940s honkytonk roadhouse with an urban destination, Harry's has turned the River Market into even more of a destination for people all over the metro. The classily uniformed staff are always helpful and friendly, eager to answer your questions. A good selection of draught, bottled, and canned beers are available, along with one of KC's best tandem tequila, bourbon, and scotch selections, at sometimes surprisingly low prices.
The $2.75 appetizers, as well, are not to be missed.

Inconspicuously located in the facade of a parking deck, and overshadowed by the easy-to-spot awning for the Quality Hill Playhouse, Sienna Bistro offers fine Italian food in an intimate setting. Largely unknown to most, it is a real gem in downtown Kansas City. The rotating wine selection is carefully arrayed for pairing with whatever is the dish du jour in the kitchen.
The service is fantastic, and eager to please. This is a great place for a romantic dinner or a quiet drink and conversation.
