In the fishing village of Mayport, the most famous restaurant around is Singleton’s. You can eat inside, but most chose to eat on the screened porches in order to enjoy the waterfront setting. You can sit and watch the pelicans, ducks, and the shrimpers settle their boats in for the evening. The floors will remind you of a wooden deck and the seating is picnic style. When you enter the restaurant, the seafood market is in the front and the bar is to the back. There is also a miniature boat museum, which is such an unexpected treat.
Singleton’s offers a wide variety of seafood. A good choice is always the seafood platter. No matter how much you eat, you’ll always need a doggy bag. There is just no way to eat it all!! So, put on your most comfy clothes and flip-flops and come eat with the locals.

When taking Beach Boulevard over the Intracoastal Waterway, also called ‘the big ditch’ by local people, you’ll see a lighthouse peeking over the road. This is the popular restaurant and nightspot known as the Lighthouse Grille. This is a huge restaurant with an outdoor bar area and a wrap around deck. The inside is framed by large picture windows so the guests can enjoy the natural marsh scenery along with cranes, pelicans, and egrets. The menu offers up a number of selections for a reasonable price. The food is good, but most people come for the specialty drinks that are served in extra large glasses daring you to try to drink it all. This place is jam-packed on the weekends with partiers from all around. I don’t generally enjoy a place where the people are elbow to elbow, but if you like to mingle with a large versatile crowd, you’ll love the Lighthouse Grille.
Plan to spend anywhere from $11 – $20 dollars for your meal, not counting drinks. The parking is ample, but sometimes hard to find your way out if you’ve drank more than one of those specialty drinks.

The Mayport Ferry, also known as the St. Johns River Ferry is the only public auto ferry in Florida. Whether you are traveling in your vehicle, bike, or as a pedestrian, the ferry is available to take you from the small fishing village of Mayport to Ft. George Island, saving many road miles. This happens to be a busy shipping channel. Along your 15 minute trip, you get a great view of the local US Coast Guard station, the many local fishing/shrimp boats, cargo ships stacked with truck trailers, private boats, and the SunCruz Casino ship.
It’s a short, but fun ride, across the river. Getting out of your car to enjoy the view is allowed. The ferry staff is friendly and will direct your vehicle every step of the way to make this a safe ride for all. I live close to the ferry and use it often. It’s a very popular, and needed, transportation service. It is also a favorite of all our tourists, who seem to appreciate the many pelicans much more than the local folks do.
The ferry departs daily on the hour and half-hour from Mayport and every 15 minutes before and after the hour from Ft. George Island. The cost for the average 2-axle car is $2.75 one way.

It’s a really fun interactive eating experience for the whole family or for that special evening out when you want something a little different than just ordering your food. At Mongo’s you get a big bowl to fill from the fresh buffet of vegetables, seafood, chicken, beef, pasta and more. After your bowl is full of your choices, you bring your bowl to Mongo’s super 72 inch Flat Hot Grill and watch as the staff grills your meal to perfection. One of my favorite stores at the Jacksonville Landing has got to be Edgewater Treasures. One you've had the opportunity to check out all the selections of fine gifts and collectibles, you will agree. The store is like a glass castle with all it's 'treasures' displayed to the collector's eye for perfection.
I spend a great deal of time enjoying the Harbor Light Lighthouse collection. However, Edgewater Treasures also carries collegiate items, Dreamsickles, Joan Baker Designs, Mare Nostrum Ships (beautiful!!), Gold Label, Ebony Visions, and many, many more.
For the serious collector, this one of a kind shop also offers many retired items at original retail prices!
