Hobees is a chain of restaurants in the Bay Area--and if the others are anything like the one in Mountain View I can see why they have managed to not only stay in business, but to expand since 1974. In fact, this Hobees in Mountain View was the first one--the mother ship that sits proudly at the corner of Central Expressway and Rengstorff Ave..
Hobees has a wonderful California/American menu with many vegetarian items. My husband and I went there for breakfast recently --this is the meal they are really famous for--and he had the Banana Streusel French Toast Sandwich --which I had a nibble of--to die for! It is made with two extra-thick slices of orange swirl French toast filled with bananas sauteed in butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Topped with toasted almonds and served with Strawberry-Yogurt sauce.--only $7.95! All of their prices are modest in my book.
I had the Hi Hat Hashbrowns--hash browns topped with diced ham and Jack and Cheddar cheese ($6.95). Yum! And since I avoid dairy, I brought my own goat milk cheddar cheese which they were happy to substitute. These folks are really willing to go out of their way for the customer with special dietary needs. They even had soy milk for my coffee--and real maple syrup for sweetener!
They are open 7 days a week and serve a wide variety of delicious dishes. I highly recommend this place for either breakfast or lunch (but don't come for dinner... because they don't serve it!). Maybe try the breakfast some Sunday, but know that. they close at 2:30 daily--so don't sleep too late!
