Hometown Girl is the store where you can get all things Baltimore--it stocks all kinds of items that fit in with the kitschy Hampden locale, as well as books on the history of Baltimore, and other very interesting giftware. One of my favorite parts of this store is the old fashioned soda fountain in the back--really brings you back to the fifties. In my opinion, one of the flaghip stores on Hampden's Avenue--a definite must-see if you're in the area.

If you're an aspiring wine connoisseur, then you will enjoy a trip to the Chesapeake Wine Company. Not only do they carry a fabulous selection of wines, but they also offer classes in wine appreciation! The classes are reasonably priced, and a good place to start if you're a wine novice like myself. The class I took was taught by the owner of the shop, who told us he personally tastes every wine in the store. I have to say, I've tried a bunch of the ones he carries, and I've never been disappointed.

Oh Said Rose! is a cute little shop located on the Avenue in Hampden--it's built in a converted row house, which gives the shop itself lots of interest. Additionally, they carry very unique clothes and accessories--stuff you won't find anywhere else. Their handbags are especially fun--and their stock is forever changing. A nice place to go if you're looking for a gift, or a special treat for yourself. Make sure you take time to look at the dresses--some of them are very pretty, and they're all very unique.

Hersheypark is one of my favorite places to go--I've been going there with my family ever since I was a little girl. Now that I'm older and wiser, I return as often as I can to once again experience the wonder that is Hersheypark. A very family friendly place, Hershey has rides for folks of all ages. I particularly like that they have a lot of rides the whole familiy can enjoy at the same time. Beyond the family-friendly rides, they have a good assortment of rollercoasters--both old wooden style and the newer suspension type coasters that always make my adventure-loving brothers happy. My favorite part though--the Chocolate World chocolate-making tour. They even give you a free sample at the end. One more pointer--try the chocolate milkshakes available in the Chocolate World cafeteria--you will NOT be disappointed.

Crepe du Jour is a cute little French themed cafe located in the heart of Mount Washington. They serve a menu consisting mainly of crepes--all kinds, from the traditional dessert crepes, dusted with powdered sugar and covered in nutella, to entree crepes with meat and vegetables. The place is tiny but very nicely decorated, and made me feel like I was in Paris for a little while. Their food is excellent, service is very good, and all in all definitely a place to check out!

Boordy Vineyards is a fantastic place to visit for any occasion--they not only offer tours of their facility and tell you about the wine making process, but they also have a great series of events that take place throughout the year. For example, their latest event, "Fond of you Fondue," which offered a variety of fondues as well as tasting opportunities. They have a weekly live band and dancing under the stars all summer long, and there are many other similar events during the year. If you happen to visit when there isn't anything in particular going on, they're happy to have you relax and enjoy a picnic on their beautiful grounds. All in all, a great place to go.

Sam's Bagels has been a favorite of mine for a long time--they not only have very tasty bagels, but they also have a great variety of sandwiches they will make for you on one of said tasty bagels. They have everything from breakfast sandwiches--including cheese and eggs and assorted breakfast meats--to more lunch-appropriate combinations. You can get all kinds--including a powerhouse, a turkey and cheese, or a tuna salad, all on your choice of bagel. Their coffee is also very good, among the best in Charles Village in this humble caffeine-o-holic's opinion.

The Cathedral of Mary our Queen is located on Charles Street in Baltimore, and is pretty standard as far as Catholic Cathedrals go. It is very large, and echoes a lot, so it isn't my favorite place to go to Mass--but they do have a number of very good homilists. Their choir is also very good, and I've always found the other parishioners to be friendly. The interior is very pretty--but very modern with lots of angles and such. However, for those who are more fans of traditional Cathedrals--the stained glass windows are still gorgeous.

The Eddie's Market in Charles Village is a favorite for Hopkins Students who need to run a few quick errands. In addition to stocking a full line of groceries--produce to dairy to cleaning supplies--Eddie's also has a fabulous deli counter. They will make you a sandwich of your choosing, and you can pair it with any of a variety of prepared foods. They also make a mean cup of coffee, in case you don't want to pay cafe prices. Their groceries are a bit more expensive than usual, but again--for convenience, you can't beat it.
