Wild Yam is a very unique boutique that sells a variety of homemade pottery--great if you need to give someone a nice gift. I think they tend to be a little bit expensive for my tastes, but in general their pieces are very nice...and probably worth the money if you're a pottery-o-phile. At the very least a nice place to stop by while browsing the wares of Hampden.

I paid my first visit to Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries this afternoon, and I've got to say--it's fabulous. The menu is very barebones--just burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese (in case you're anti-meat) and fries. But, definitely worth the trip--all burger toppings are free (these include such items as sauteed mushrooms, onions, and other assorted goodies) portions are great, and the fries were awesome. They also give you free bulk peanuts. All in all, they get an A from me.

The University Mini Mart is the only convenience store that is really close to the Hopkins Undergrad Campus. They sell a variety of grocery items--but mostly chips and soda--and also have a full service deli that will make you sandwiches. I've been told these sandwiches are very good by reliable sources, however I've never been able to muster up the courage. The store is a little on the old and dingy side--but again, for convenience (and particularly if you're without a car) it's worth visiting in a pinch.

This is probably the best Diner I've been to in the Wayne, PA area. They have a huge menu, with lots of breakfast options, as well as plenty of sandwiches and other lunch and dinner options. I particularly enjoyed the vegetarian cheese steak option on their menu--it's a really great veggie only sandwich. They have a really attractive dessert case as well--they all look tempting! Prices are average, and they're always open--so if you're looking for a place to grab pancakes at 3am, this is for you.

In the Towson area, there aren't too many 24 hour restaurants--the Towson Diner is one of the only ones around that I know of. But with a very extensive menu including breakfast, lunch and dinner options--it's about the only one you need to know about. They have great prices and as I mentioned--if you're in the mood for a snack at 3am, this is one of few places you can go. If you go during the morning, there is quite the wait--but at night you shouldn't have a problem.

Gaga's is a little ice cream parlor located in Charles Village. They tend to be on the more expensive side as ice cream parlors go, but their ice cream is absolutely fantastic. They've been around for a couple of years in a location where businesses seem to come and go overnight, so that must speak to their success. In the summer when it's warm, you can sit outside on a little patio overlooking the street to enjoy your cone!

The Peace A Pizza shop is one of my favorite places to go for a tasty meal--they have a bunch of very gourmet pizzas that are all absolutely wonderful. My favorite so far has been the Mediterranean. The other thing I've particularly enjoyed--the healthy milkshakes. It's always impressive to me that they can make a milkshake taste both good and be healthy at the same time. I'm a fan.

The Daily Grind is a little coffee shop located in Baltimore, Maryland. Like many other upscale espresso shops, they serve a variety of lattes, mochas, and other assorted coffee drinks--but unlike the nationally advertised variety, there is a lot more personality at the Daily Grind. They have a few locations, several of which are on the campus of the Johns Hopkins Hospital. In general, the coffee they serve is good, and their prices are comparable to other similar cafes.

For McHenry is one of the best historical attractions in Baltimore--it's reachable by car, but also by water taxi from the inner harbor. In addition to the museum, which is small but interesting, Fort McHenry's grounds are spacious and open to the public. It is located right on the water, so it's got a beautiful view. It's a nice place for a picnic in warmer weather--or just to go for a walk or a jog.

The Iron Hill Brewery is a really great microbrewery in Delaware--they have a few different locations, all of which serve their great beer, as well as a variety of tasty food. I'm a big fan of their pizzas, as well as the burgers on the menu. Compared to some other places serving the same kinds of food, they do tend to be priced a little bit higher--but the food is really tasty, and I've always thought it's worth the money.
