There has been a Mexican restaurant in this location since I was a kid; I can remember my dad taking me there on nights when my mom and sister (who didn’t like Mexican food) were somewhere else. I think the management has changed since then, perhaps a couple of times, but the food is still just as good. I believe the restaurant now has a token selection of American food, for those family members who can’t handle spicy Mexican food.

If you love pizza, Edgewater Inn is a great place to try! It’s essentially a bar and pizza place, located in old Edgewater, at 25th and Sheridan. The pizza is excellent, and the atmosphere is that of a timeless Irish pub. Even though the Denver area has grown up around it, Edgewater still retains some of the traits of a small town, and the local pub – Edgewater Inn – is one of them!

Last year for my sister’s birthday, we went to the Edelweiss, a German restaurant in Colorado Springs. We were all very impressed. The prices were a tad bit higher than your “average” restaurant, but the atmosphere and food were very authentic. My dad, who has been to Germany at least a half dozen times, thought the food was excellent, and he even struck up a conversation with our German waitress! Definitely the place to go if you want authentic German food and atmosphere!

A little while back, my boyfriend and I went to lunch with a friend at Dixon’s Downtown Grill. The atmosphere was fun and a little busy, and the food was excellent! I ordered the Nutty Cheese Salad, and was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of the salad. No, Dixon’s is not the kind of place that serves little pansy salads! The salad was a veritable mountain of lettuce, salad fixings, nuts, and cheese. Now that’s a REAL salad!

Although I’ve only been to Devil’s Food for breakfast and brunch on the weekends, they’re more than just a breakfast food restaurant. “Bakery” is actually in their name, but they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as teatime. They’re open early every day (except Monday, their day off); during the week and on Sundays they close in the afternoon, but on Friday and Saturday nights they stay open until midnight. Aside from the fantastic hours, the food is unbelievably good: the excellent recipes are prepared using all-natural foods, and the coffee they serve is from a top-notch local company. The “devil” theme keeps things interesting, too: the walls of the ladies’ restroom are painted with a mural of Adam and Eve, and the walls of the men’s restroom feature a mural of Robert Johnson selling his soul to the devil.

Not too long ago, my boyfriend moved in with me. He absolutely hated the old mattress set that I had (even though it never bothered me – I can sleep on virtually anything). We decided to get a new mattress set, so we went to Denver Mattress. The experience was very positive – the salesman didn’t harass us, just sold us the mattress we picked out and scheduled the delivery. We were in and out of there very quickly. The delivery also went smoothly: the truck was there right when they said they would be, and worked quickly and efficiently to replace the old mattresses with the new ones.

Although the fluorescent sign about the store says “Liquor & Fine Wine,” the store is listed as “Columbine Valley Liquors Off Littleton.” This liquor store has a good selection of wine and liquor without being obnoxious. The same men are generally always behind the counter, so I think they are the owners; they are friendly and the store has a relaxed atmosphere. A great liquor store to frequent if you live in the area!

As I was growing up, my main experiences of Chinese food came from Columbine Gardens, a Chinese restaurant in unincorporated Jefferson County (an area also known as Littleton). The food was always pretty good, but when I got old enough to go restaurants without my parents I discovered that there was actually better Chinese food out there. Then, a couple of years ago, the ownership changed, and now I would definitely say that the food at Columbine Gardens is NOT the best Chinese food around. The egg rolls are often more cabbage than anything else, and likewise with the other dishes: the quality has definitely suffered, even though it still all tastes decent.

This antique mall, located on Broadway just north of Littleton Boulevard, is a perfect example of how different dealers vary in the antiques they carry and the prices they feature. This antique mall contains booths with really high quality antiques as well as booths with rustic-style antiques, and an equally wide range of prices. For example, the first time I was there I saw in one booth several beautiful bookcases that I thought were seriously overpriced – the smallest one was around $400 – but in another booth I saw a lovely leather-top end table that was set at what I would call a garage-sale price – something around $30. The entire store seems to be like this – full of extreme highs and extreme lows – which means you’re likely to find SOMETHING in your style and within your budget.

Another tasty alternative to chain coffee shops is CJ’s Coffee, located just down the road from Chatfield Senior High. I used to go there many years ago, before I developed a taste for coffee, but I remember how good their Milky Way coffee tasted even to my unsophisticated taste buds! Now, like other coffee shops, CJ’s Coffee is having to change with the times: they now offer internet access, and it’s free on weekday afternoons if you buy a coffee.
