PC Brokers is a friendly, local computer store, with two locations: Littleton and Colorado Springs. Although I’ve only been in there once, and they didn’t have what I needed (a small laptop case for an ultra-small laptop), I noticed right off how friendly and helpful they were, despite the fact that there were several customers in the store. PC Brokers seemed to me like they would be good people to deal with if you were in the market to buy a computer.

Nothing could be more apt than “Packrat Antiques.” I usually love antique stores, but this one is like walking into the garage or basement of an old couple who never threw anything away. I tend to like antiques that are functional as well as beautiful, and I have never seen a more useless selection of stuff than at this antique store. Some of the antiques they carry probably appeal to specialized collectors, but it’s NOT the antique store for someone who just wants to decorate in general.

On two floors of one of the historic buildings in Littleton, you’ll find everything from books to blankets, from holiday items to children’s toys. The employees are very nice, and the store is great to browse through!

My parents, ever the penny-pinchers, used to always get gas at a station and convenience store called My Mart, located on Kipling a little south of Quincy. This station always had the cheapest gas around (or was tied with another cheap station nearby). When I first got my car, I got gas there a lot too. Eventually I realized that their gas actually meant poorer mileage for my car, and I started getting mid-grade at some of the better-quality gas stations. Although it’s nothing about the owners of My Mart, who are very friendly and run an excellent ethnic food stand inside the convenience store, I can tell you that the difference in my gas mileage is nearly 100 miles per tank! It’s NOT always worth it to save a couple of pennies in gas.

My experience with My Big Fat Greek Café was breakfast; I don’t recall if they serve other foods, but I do remember that they have an excellent breakfast menu. A Greek taste makes for a nice twist on your ordinary breakfast foods! The time I was there, the service was somewhat slow, but that seemed unusual; the waitress was very apologetic, and made up for it by discounting our meal.

Although I don’t go crazy over the scrapbooking thing like some people I know, for Christmas I decided to start a scrapbook for my boyfriend and I. I went to the only local scrapbook store I know of: Mountains of Memories, located at Wadsworth and Bowles. I was pleasantly surprised by their variety of scrapbooks and accessories. I was able to find exactly what I wanted – which was, as it happened, something simple, even though they have plenty for the really nutty scrapbookers as well. The employees are also very friendly, and the store offers a punch card for frequent customers, as well, which comes in handy. The store also offers classes in scrapbooking, for those who want to produce professional-looking scrapbook pages but aren’t sure quite how to go about it. Basically, Mountains of Memories has a little something for every kind of scrapbooker!

Mike’s Camera offers a local alternative for all your photo needs, whether film or digital. I used them when I used to run errands for an employer, and I always found the Mike’s Camera employees to be very helpful. I had never seen a digital camera like my employers, so I didn’t know what kind of memory card it used, and it turned out to be a very unusual card that they had to order, but the employees were all very helpful and friendly from beginning to end. Very highly recommended!

A few years back, a date took me to Mi Cocina. I don’t remember the restaurant being particularly good or bad. I ordered my usual, cheese enchiladas, and they were pretty good. The atmosphere was also similar to other hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants: pleasantly busy. The best thing about Mi Cocina, however, is that they have takeout and DELIVERY, which is pretty uncommon for Mexican restaurants in the area. Convenient and worth trying!

McKinners Pizza Bar, which opened just recently in Old Littleton, has brought something new to the historic area: a trendy bar and restaurant to compliment Littleton’s quaint little shops and theater. Although there are other bars and restaurants on Main Street, there are none quite like this one! The crowd, the bar and tables setup, the fast service, and the to-die-for pizza all feel like something out of the big city, despite the small town location. Although the prices are a bit on the high side of Main Street’s variety, it’s worth paying for the experience!

Years ago, Maria’s moved in across the street from where I lived, with nothing more than a sign that read “Mexican Food” on the building. I decided to try it out…and I have to say, I don’t think I’ve ever had worse Mexican food. I ordered cheese enchiladas, and they were literally these frozen or pre-made things that the restaurant popped into the microwave – except they didn’t microwave them long enough, because the cheese wasn’t melted all the way in the middle. Needless to say, I never went back there again.
