I mostly go to this grocery store when I need to go the Wells Fargo Bank in the store. It is closer than going to the main bank on Hesperia Road. While there I pick up some of their sale items. They have good prices of produce, sodas, cereals, meats, and breads. The only complaints I have of the store is: 1)It is too cold during the winter months ( a lot of times you will see the front doors open and the checkers wearing light jackets). 2)There is not enough health foods, low-fat, diet or organic foods available. 3)You have to bag your own groceries, which can be quite a chore after you have put all the groceries in the cart and then take them back out of the cart, and now bag them into the plastic bags to take out to the car, drive home, take the groceries out of the car, put them in the house, and stack them all away on their shelves in the kitchen. But, if it keeps the prices down, I'll do it!!

As you know from the commercials, Subway is the place to eat for sandwiches with 6 grams of fat or less (just leave off the mayonnaise and no cheese or oil). If you are a Weight Watcher member, you will find that the 6" turkey breast sub is only 5 points. Also the ham sub, roast beef sub, and turkey breast and ham sub. Deli style sandwiches are 4 points. The salads are all 2 or 3 points if you leave off the cheese and salad dressing. You can use the French or Ranch Dressings for 1 point, and the Fat-Free Italian Dressing for 0 points. You can have a 6-inch Low Fat Turkey Breast & Ham Sub (with standard vegetable), 1 Low Fat Veggie Delite Salad (without cheese), and 1 packet of Fat Free Ranch Dressing all for only 6 points. This is why a Subway Diet can work. Not that I would want to only eat Subway sandwiches, but I sure don't mind one a few times a month. For those of you not dieting, it is just a good sandwich to eat. And for those of you who don't know about the point system, it is just a way to judge how much fat, calories, and fiber you are getting from the foods you eat, without having to look it up yourself each time. After a while, you have the points memorized.

My friend and I went here for lunch. We had their enchilada special. We ate it, but we did not enjoy it. The food was tasteless. The rice was dry. My friend said she could make better enchiladas at home. We were sure glad we checked out this Mexican restaurant before taking our husbands there for dinner. As friends, we do like to try out new restaurants in town together. But, this one was a flop, and there is no need to go back. Our husbands will not miss out on anything. The service was great, and the people were nice. Their friendliness would make you want to go back there again, but since I go to a restaurant to eat delicious food and enjoy what I am eating, I won't be able to go back there again.

Are you ever in the mood for a great sub sandwich? Be sure to check out the deli department at Ralph's Market in Apple Valley on Highway 18. The prices are lower than Subway, and the sandwiches are delicious. They fill them with plenty of meats, veggies, and toppings of your choice. The serve all of these goodies on French bread made in the bakery. A bag of chips, and a soda, and your are ready to go for a nice lunch or dinner. The owners have remodeled the store to update it to the 21st century, except for their dirty bathrooms at the back of the store. They do have a very small section for their meats and not very many choices. Occasionally they will have a great sale on one of their meats, and then I'll go there to stock up. I only buy the produce that is on sale, because the rest can be quite expensive. The store has a large section of cheeses, dairy, and yogurts. It takes a while to get out of the store because they usually have only about 4 check-out lines, even though there is more in the store to use. I've never understood that one. You can find some beautiful flowers and plants in their flower section at the front of the store, but again they can be pricey, but beautiful. I saw one man leaving the store on Valentine's Day with a beautiful arrangement.

How convenient? A Lowe's in our neighborhood! The aisles are wide. They have lots of merchandise to choose from. The restrooms are in the front of the store (no searching the whole building for one anymore); and these restrooms are spacious, with beautiful decor and modern, contemporary sinks. What a pleasant shopping experience we had on our first visit to this store. Plenty of employees throughout the store to help us find what we needed. And they were knowledgeable about their merchandise. The store was quiet and not crowded. We had no lines to stand in, and checked right out because there were plenty of checkers to pick from. This particular store in Apple Valley hasn't been completely discovered as yet, so, now is the time to go and see it for yourself. I know we all have something around our house and yard that needs repaired, updated, or added to. And, we don't have to drive to the busiest section of the High Desert by the Victorville Mall on Bear Valley Road anymore!

I love to shop at Target. And now that they have remodeled the store it seems so much more spacious. They make good use of great design, color, cleanliness, displays, and organization to make for a great shopping experience. It is not hard to find what you need. The store is not sloppy. And they do not have high sounding music and announcements screaming in your ears while you shop. You can actually feel at peace in this department store. There are lots of choices to choose from, everything from toys to outdoor furniture. Check out their kitchen, bedroom, clothes, children, garden, toys, auto, and sports sections. Shopping here is convenient. You don't have to run to a lot of stores in one afternoon. You can get most of your needs in this one store. The prices are fair, but still look for the deals, bargains, and sales each week. Everything in the store will go on sale at some time or another.

Walk up to the counter and review the menu written on the back wall and place your order. You will be given a number to take to your table. You seat yourself in one of their booths and wait to be served. The food will be brought out to you by one of the employees. If you need refills on your drinks, go back up to the counter for seconds. They also have a drive-through window for a quick order out. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinners. No. 20 is the Tom's Restaurant we frequent the most. It is only a couple of blocks from our home and across from St. Mary's Hospital. Don't be surprised to see a doctor or nurse occasionally, for they frequent the restaurant quite often; or overhear a conversation at the next table from someone who has just visited a loved one in the hospital. We like the taco salad, which comes in a large tortilla shell full of beans, greens, veggies, and meat of your choice. I usually have the salsa for my dressing. The menu includes large burgers, large fries, shakes, RC colas, sandwiches, salads, Mexican dishes, and dinner entrées. As you walk up to the restaurant you will notice many advertisements on the windows giving you a sample of their specials. The portions are large and the prices are low. There are plenty of Tom's in the High Desert, so you will probably not have a hard time finding one near where you live.

We ventured out to this restaurant by accident. We went there to check out a restaurant listed on the Judy'sBook site, and found out they had new owners and a new name. They are now known as Mary's Mexican Grill on Yucca Loma Road in Apple Valley. When we went there on 2/17/06, the new owners had only been there for two weeks. We ordered their tacos. I was expecting the regular hard crunchy taco with a little bit of hamburger and diced tomato, but instead I got the most delicious, spicy, open-faced soft tacos with a wonderful flavor. I felt like I had just gone to Baja Fresh. They have an A rating. The only way they will be discovered is by word-of-mouth. I will definitely be going back there soon for some more of those tacos! The people working there were very friendly. They were eager to please, and thanked us for coming as we left. We have since been back there several times as of 5/10/06. My husband likes their menudo and burritos. I'm still hooked on the tacos. I'm just trying different meats each time I go. This Mexican restaurant also has a lot of specials to choose from.

My husband and I go here to eat. The menu has all the makings of a café. Good old fashioned hamburgers and fries with a RC cola. There are dinner entrées, a breakfast menu, Mexican dishes ( we like their taco salads), sandwiches, salads, shakes, etc. You get refills on your ice teas and colas, so don't be shy to go to the counter and request more. You order first, get a number, then seat yourself. An employee will bring you your food, and ask you if there is anything else you would like. It is not a waitress type restaurant. They may come by from time to time if they are not too busy and get refills for you, otherwise just go back up to the counter and they will be happy to give you what you need - maybe another bowl of salsa to go with the salad.. It is near the Apple Valley Post Office. A good place to stop while you are out doing your errands. You get large servings on everything you order, they have drive-through service, and plenty of choices on their menu. Everyone is friendly. And the prices are low.

I can't think of any other place I would rather be than at the Boardwalk when I am in Santa Cruz. You have the atmosphere of an old-time fair with rides, games and food; the sunny beach; seafood restaurants; hotels with views of the ocean; and the wharf with shops, restaurants, and Gelatto ice cream. I wish I was there right now! If you like to skate, rent some skates and skate down the sidewalk that runs the whole length of Santa Cruz's ocean front. Get a view of the boats, lighthouse, sea otters, and surfers along the way. In view at all times, from all of these spots, is the rides on the Boardwalk. Very pretty at night when they light up everything. Be sure to see it from the near-by Wharf at night. The Boardwalk has an old fashioned wooden roller coaster (quite safe), a whole building with bumper cars, and an old fashioned merry-go-round, where you can practice throwing the gold ring into the clown's face. All of these rides sit on a boardwalk right on the beach. A few steps down the stairs and there you are in the sand making a sand castle. Be sure to venture down to the Boardwalk when they have their Clam Chowder Festival, or one of their 50's band concerts. They have a stage in the sand. I use to live in the Santa Cruz mountains and went to the Boardwalk many times over the years and always had fun.
