The Big Lots stores remind me of the Five & Dime and Woolworth's from the olden days. Places where you could find inexpensive clothing like $4.00 polo-style shirts for men, girl's bikes for just $60.00 and collectible cars for just $4.00 each. The prices have changed quite-a-bit from the 5 cent and 10 cent days, but you still can get bargains anywhere from 25% to 66% off of retail price. Their merchandise includes items like slipcovers, rugs, and luggage. You can finance your furniture. There are baby items like high chairs, swings, and bassinets, where you can save up to 40%. Today we have computers, so Big Lots carries your needs for the electronic age, like inkjet printers for $20 instead of the regular $30.00 price. Plenty of items to decorate your home. Many supplies for the men and their garages and school supplies for the children. You will be able to find items for men, women, and children. The store can be in a disarray at times, but with careful looking you will find those items that are worth buying; the same brand names as other department stores but at closeout prices. This is definitely the store to shop at near Christmas, for they have inexpensive but nice looking ornaments for your trees, plenty of wrapping paper and bows to wrap your presents and lots of beautiful holiday decorations for your home. I don't get to shop at Big Lots as much as I would like because of distance, but when I am in the area, I make sure to make a stop at their store on Main Street in Hesperia or the Victorville store near Costco.

I had the wonderful opportunity to stay in the RV park at Pachanga with our friends who own a trailer. The sites are wide and long, with a patch of grass for every site, a swimming pool & saunas, laundry room, clean rest rooms & showers, and a gambling casino near-by. You don't have to use your feet or car to get to the casino, for they have shuttles running most of the day. If one is needed, and hasn't come by recently, you can call in a request for a shuttle to your location. You sit right next to the beautiful hills of Temecula. We had so much fun visiting, seeing the sights around Temecula, and the beautiful views and drives near-by. Our friends have vacationed at this location many times, because it has become one of their favorites, due to the well-kept grounds and friendly staff. Needless to say, no one went home with any money in their pockets after visiting the casino a few times. Do they ever give any money away!

My friend and I just had lunch at Claim Jumper today. Oh, boy, was the food delicious!! My Chicken Pot Pie must have been the size of a 6" pie. The large pieces of vegetables, meat, and potatoes in this pie were fresh tasting, and so scrumptious. It was so large that I had to take some home for lunch tomorrow. It came with fruit, again cut in good sized pieces, fresh tasting, and so much I had to take some of it home too. Now, how often does that happen with a fruit bowl! My friend's lunch was quiche and salad. She gave me a taste of her quiche. It tasted as if it had just been made recently, with fluffy eggs, tasty ingredients, and great pie shell. All the ingredients in the salads looked like they had just been picked from the garden. The greens were so green, the reds were so red, and the whites were so white. The manager was handy for solving your needs or requests. The staff was pleasant, attentive, and thoughtful. They didn't seem so busy that they didn't have time for you. They always checked each time they came by to see if you needed anything. Our waitress didn't act stressed at all. She even took the time to answer our questions and make comments on our dining experience. The restaurant seemed to have plenty of waitresses for the whole establishment, so no one waitress was having to take care of 20 tables at-a-time. For those of you who like a bar area with good drinks, Claim Jumper had plenty of drink choices, including wines, beers, bartender's picks, martinis, margaritas, specialty drinks, coffee, and dessert drinks. The appetizer menu included such great choices like Avocado Rolls, Cheese Potato Cakes, Southwest Eggrolls, and Spinach Artichoke Dip. There was such a great selection that my friend and I thought we should just order appetizers. The decor helps to make your dining experience pleasant, with tropical fans blowing on the ceiling, large booths with plenty of seating, and an intimate setting. You find yourself wanting to stay a long time to visit eat and visit. You definitely don't need to feel rushed in this restaurant. This is a great place for a lovely luncheon with your best friend, a date with your husband or wife, a business luncheon, or a dinner with the family. I am looking forward to the next time I can dine at Claim Jumpers. If you asked, I would go there in a second!

Consumer Reports, which is published by Consumers Union, has booklets such as the 2006 Buying Guide. There is a monthly magazine,Consumer Reports Magazine, with articles on new products in the market. And they can be checked out on a website, www.ConsumrReports.org for the latest rating of autos, appliances, electronic gear, yard equipment and more. Consumers Union is an independent, non-profit testing and information organization Founded in 1936. Their mission is to test products, inform the public, and protect consumers. Whenever you are going to purchase an item, you may go to the Consumer Reports' publications or website to see how they are rated. What is the best gas grill to buy? What bread makers have good bread quality, are convenient, and versatile? What ceiling fans make a room feel seven degrees cooler, and give you comfort on a moderately hot day? These are the kinds of questions that get answered for you by Consumer Reports. I have known people that will not purchase a product without checking with Consumer Reports first. Who in the world wants to get an item that doesn't perform correctly or has had to be back at the shop for repairs too many times? I've been known to check with Consumer Reports "after" making a purchase and finding out that they did not recommend that particular brand. It is much better to check first! They are especially known for their reviews on the reliability of cars. Consumer Reports will tell you if what you are paying for that car, washing machine, or food processor is worth the price they are asking for it at the stores. They will even tell you such things as when to buy. For example, May, June, and July is when you'll find the best selection in ceiling fans, but the best selection in prices will be in the off-season. These publication also tell you what is available out there in the market. This is a good way to go and not be an impulsive buyer!

This is a great Christian Bookstore with lots of choices for Bibles, books, music, and gifts. They have specials and they have mark downs. Their selection of Bibles is fantastic. One whole corner of the store is Bibles of all different styles. I especially enjoy their card section. Some of their boxed sets of cards go on sale once-an-awhile for Buy 2, get the Third One Free. I took my friend there recently so she could get some Thank You cards. If you sign up for their catalog, you will find coupons you can use in the store, like $6.66 each for any soft cover Left Behind series title or 15% off the non-sale items in the store. There is one room just for the kid's books, magazines, tapes and stuffed toys. Lots of choices for Bible Covers at this store. If your church has Secret Sisters, there are plenty of gift ideas to find while shopping at Christian Treasures Bible Bookstore. The bathroom is cute with plenty of room. Anyone shopping in the store can use it. They have special merchandise for each of the holidays, like Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, etc. Happy shopping!

Whenever I can get the chance, I leave town to find a Trader Joe's, since we don't have one in our area. This time I went to the Trader Joe's in Palmdale, CA. You will find that not all Trader Joe's are the same. This one has wide aisles, a small section of produce with bananas for .19 each, and less merchandise than others. The choices of nuts were low for example. I am use to finding every nut possible at another Trader Joe's in another location. So, I was disappointed when I could only get walnuts, cashews, or peanuts. There was salted, unsalted, and raw nuts to choose from though. The prices are unbelievable at all of the Trader Joe's grocery stores. There is no other health food store that I know of that sales cereals for $1.99, soy milk for $1.29, and organic blue tortilla chips for $1.49.The place is clean, smells good, and has friendly employees who are eager to help you.

This restaurant smells good and the food tastes good. You can get Whole Grain breads for your sandwiches, or on the side if you wish, with your salad, sandwiches, or soup. You stand in line, put in your order, pour your own drink, and then find a seat. Most of the seating is table and chairs. There are a few booths and couches to sit on too. The bread was so good we ordered a couple of loafs to take home. My husband had their Pick 2 on the menu. That is 1/2 of sandwich and soup or 1/2 sandwich and salad, or soup and salad. It is your choice. He said his broccoli soup was very good. I had a Mission Chicken Salad. It is a new salad they have created with large pieces of chicken breast, fresh lettuces, red cabbage, etc. I got a side of French Briquette. You get choices of sides. Choices like apple, chips, or bread. The employees are very kind and helpful. You feel healthier after eating at this restaurant!

Victorville has an excellent Mexican Restaurant on Bear Valley Road. It is the Los Toritos Mexican Restaurant. Since we live in Apple Valley we go over there occasionally to have a good meal. We leave there pleasantly full. The food is fresh and tasty. The spices they use in their meat is delicious. The rice has vegetables mixed in with it, which is the way I like my rice. The pinto beans that I ordered were served in a small bowl. Again the spices they used in their beans made them extra special good. I would definitely recommend their beans at this restaurant. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night, but they have lots of seating, so there was no wait to be seated. The decor is fantastic with its Mexican theme. There is a bar if you want a margarita or beer. The prices are reasonable. The waiters are very helpful. The portion sizes are large enough to take some leftovers home for lunch the next day. The only thing my husband and I were unhappy with was their bathrooms. They really need to remodel their restrooms and keep them cleaner. I don't see why they couldn't have some pretty Mexican tile on the walls and floors. And fix the doors to the stalls in the women's room. Using the restroom is part of the experience of eating at a restaurant. When are they going to catch on to that fact? There are some restaurants that have beautiful restrooms, but this is not one of them!

My husband and I finally tried Jamba Juice, because I recently heard how good Jamba Juice is from other members of Judy's Book. We found the store in Palmdale, CA on 10th street. Our drinks were delicious. I enjoyed my Cranberry Craze. My husband kept talking about the enjoyment he was having with his Berry Drink. He said it was better than having ice cream after dinner. We figured it would be healthy for us with all of those fruit ingredients in the smoothie. My Cranberry Craze had cranberries, blueberries, raspberry sherbet, etc. We plan to go there again when we go back to Palmdale, CA to. We go there to shop at Vitamin Shoppe and Trader Joe's. While we were there this time we decided to have dinner at Panera Bread Restaurant, then a Jamba Juice later for dessert before we headed home to Apple Valley, CA. This drink really cooled us down in spite of the 100 degree hot spell. You need drinks like this on days like that!
