Some items I would get in August right before school started. I would do a lot of circling of items that interested me in hopes I would get a few of them. Mom was pretty good about finding something I liked. I actually think she was better at picking my clothes than I was. Of course, at the time, I didn't think so!

Valentine's Day falls smack in the middle of the week this year. But, imagine how much fun it would be to take Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off to have a very long weekend together to celebrate your relationship. This holiday would be a perfect excuse for the two of you to treat yourselves to a romantic holiday getaway.
Depending on the area you live in your hotel you choose depends on what is available near-by, driving distance, or a destination you love to fly to. In Southern California there are many choices for a fine hotel to spend your romantic weekend at.
In Dana Point, California, perched high on a cliff with views of the Dana Point Yacht Harbor and sensational Pacific Ocean sunsets, The Blue Lantern Inn is a wonderfully cozy hideaway. Like many buildings in Dana Point, the inn is reminiscent of New England, though it's an hour and 15 minutes South of Los Angeles. It's a Victorian-style summer house with trim and huge front porch, though, of course, the flowers that surround the porch are Southern Californian and the trees are eucalyptus. The luxurious guest rooms are equipped with fireplaces, Jacuzzis, and terry robes and even teddy bears in every room. Most of the rooms have private sun decks and some have sunken sitting areas. A view, water or height can make almost any place romantic, but this one is a sure bet. The luxurious rooms are perfect for romance.
All room rates include breakfast, afternoon wine, evening turndown service, morning newspaper delivery, complimentary sodas and home baked cooked, and bicycles to borrow for exploring the beautiful coastline.

We always associate love with hearts and the color red. You could always find a nice red sweater, red t-shirt, red jeans, or a red jacket to buy for a Valentine's gift. I would be very surprised if you couldn't find something red around Valentine's Day.
When I prepare a Valentine's box for my grandchildren who live in another state, I always look for items that are red. I have purchased red book marks, red cars, red outfits from Gap, red pencils, or red decorations. Kids Gap and Baby's Gap is just as fun to shop at as the Gap store for adults. In fact, Baby Gap is having a line of clothing availabe right now that is perfect for Valentine's Gifts for the baby in your family. How about a red hoodie with a white heart on the front of the jacket? Baby would be all dressed up for Valentines' Day which could be spent at the zoo. All of these stores can be found on line at http://www.gap.com and http://www.babygap.com if you don't have a store in your area. When I go to Gap I have to drive 45 minutes to Rancho Chucamonga to find a Gap store to shop at. It is a half-an-hour drive to a Gap outlet store in Barstow. With the growth we have been having in Victorville, I expect we will have our own Gap store soon. One advantage to shopping online with Gap is that if you have any returns you can go to a local Gap store to exchange your item - you don't have to mess with snail mail. In my case, that would be in Barstow at the Outlet Mall.
I remember when they use to talk about the decline in shoppers at Gap, but then Gap did a makeover and have gotten a lot of their business back again. My oldest daughter requests clothes from Gap for presents. I have given her Gap Gift Cards as Christmas gifts so she could pick out her own clothes. And, the grandchildren enjoy the style of Gap clothes. Denim is definitely popular these days and has been for a very long time. So, maybe denim in color would be a very nice choice for a Valentine's present this year,

What is it you can't find at Wal-Mart? I can easily find a gift for my husband at Wal-Mart. He would enjoy any gift I gave him from the auto section. Tools are always a favorite gift for him. He enjoys new clothes - he gets so tired of the old ones. And he needs good shoes for walking at lunch time at work. A game that the two of us could play together would be a nice gift. We have especially enjoyed the NFLonoply Game we purchased several years ago. And it is nice to play a game with your favorite friends on Valentine's Day. He always needs a new billfold, belts, ties, and shoe laces every year. And of course underwear, t-shirts, and socks. One Valentine's Day I purchased a large box of sports socks and dressy socks filled to the top. It didn't have to worry about socks for a very long time after that! He loves to barbecue, so Wal-Mart has many items to give a husband for the grill. My husband could use some new utensils, grill guard, and salt and pepper shakers for his grilling this Spring. He makes the best hamburgers. All the relatives beg for him to barbecue his hamburgers when they come for a visit.
And the list could go on and on and on. If you need several gift choices, Wal-Mart is the place to go. You can even find items for the whole family at Wal-Mart. I would love some new towels, sheets, waffle iron, or serving bowl. My grandchildren would love a puzzle, piggy bank or coloring book. And don't forget about the gardening section where you could purchase a new plant for your sweetheart or grandparent. I would rather receive a plant than cut flowers. I can enjoy the plant for a much longer time as long as I take good care of it!

Most items you need to complete a home improvement project can be found at The Home Depot, whether it be in the kitchen, bathroom, or the garden. Lets see, what is on my honey-do list? Refinish the coffee table, paint the new cupboard, sand the front door and stain it, a new lamp for the bedroom, paint the outdoor benches, put a new faucet on the laundry room sink. repair the dent in the living room wall, organize the garage, get rid of the old tractor sitting behind the shed, plant a tree in the backyard, trim the branches that are breaking, enlarge the deck, etc. etc. etc. I'm sure you all have your own honey-do list that your spouses know all about.
Hopefully, they will think to go off to Home Depot and purchase some products to finish one of those projects just for you! Let's see, for me, some sandpaper, a sander, some wood stain, and a glaze - that should do it for the coffee table!
Even if it is a project they start on Valentine's day, but can't get it finished for another week, at least you know they started on it - finally!!

I was at one of my friend's home when she was preparing a buffet for a large crowd of people. She sent her husband to a local fast-food restaurant to get containers of already prepared salads. She put them in a bowl of her own and served the large salad to her guests.
I thought that was a fabulous idea. The salads are not that expensive. There is more lettuce and goodies in one of those plastic containers than it looks like there is. The convenience is fantastic. What is one of the things that becomes so hard when entertaining - the preparing of all the food. Why not find some quick and easy steps to lighten the load? You really could use any near-by fast-food restaurant that carries salads. My friend used a fast-food pizza restaurant for her salads. Please go to the one you feel has the tastiest salads.
I go to our near-by Jack-In-The-Box for my salads. I like all of them - The Southwestern, The Club, The Oriental, etc. Each salad costs around $4.95. When you figure up the amount of goodies you would have to buy to make that same salad, the amount of time it will take to chop up everything, and the shopping involved at the grocery store to find all the ingredients, I thing $4.95 sounds like a great buy. Not only that, they give you a nice sized single serving of dressing which will top off the salads of your choice.
I know the next time I have the Super Bowl Party at my house I'm going to Jack-In-The-Box for the lettuce.
