Kids of all ages (yes, adults, too) can't help but enjoy themselves at Six Flags. Sure the price has skyrocketed over the years, but if you make a day of it, it's not so bad. The park is well-laid out, but massive, so it's easy to get separated from your friends. I particularly like the water park, where I can plop my bones on an inner tube in the lazy river, going round and round on a hot summer day while the kids are running themselves ragged on the rides.
They even offer a variety of foods, which I like, as opposed to EVERYTHING being fried and/or loaded with sugar. It's nice to see some healthy alternatives for the grown-ups.
Take the kids--they'll love you for it.

This step-back-in-time is one of our best-kept secrets. At Heritage Square you can host a wedding , ride the Alpine Slide, buy unique Christmas ornaments, sit at an old-fashioned soda fountain, take a train ride, have an old-time photos taken and much more. The old-west ambiance is unique and encourages you to linger and the shops have some very different items--many of them with a Colorado theme.
At Christmas time it is decorated absolutely beautifully! It's such a relaxing break from the malls! Often in the summer, there are street entertainers.
The wedding bell chapel is quaint yet beautiful--perfect for a Colorado, old-west, or Victorian-themed wedding. Couple it with a reception at the Victorian Event Center and you've got yourself a winner!

Not your high end Disney-world clone, but anyone over 35 who remembers the small time amusement parks of your youth will find this place charming. The antique wooden roller coaster still has a few thrills left in it! This is a place where your children can roam a bit further from you than they may in larger parks without having you panic.
Good place to step back in time, play a few games, take in some nostalgia, eat "carnival food" and just enjoy the ambiance. Just don't expect it to rock your world or have top-notch technology rides. Great Sunday afternoon activity on a summer day with small kids, though.

This is my family's favorite summer attraction. They have an amazing number of water-themed rides and every year they come up with something new. My favorite thing is to just drift along in a tube along the Lazy River on a hot summer day, but there is much more to do if you are of a more active mindset. Jumps, slides, shoots, waterfalls--you name it. If you can propel you body through it in water, they've done it!
There are many picnic areas interspersed throughout the park so take a lunch. It's a bit pricey when you add in admission, tube rentals and food, so plan to spend the entire day to get your money's worth. (many areas businesses do offer discount coupons.)

There is a plethora of activities at Fat City. From the ever-pervasive video games to laser tag to bowling to mini golf, this will drain your pocketbook, one dollar at a time, but the kids will love it. I had my daughter's birthday party there a few years ago (they specialize in that) and they all had a marvelous time. There's not a whole lot there to interest Mom & Dad while the pre-teens are running about, but at least you know they are safe and (somewhere) under one roof.

Okay, when I find toys billed as antiques that I played with as a child, they can't really be antiques...can they???
My ego aside, this is a wonderful store. It is very large and stocked from floor to ceiling with fun items of yester-year. Remember Tinker Toys? They have 'em. Erector sets, too. Also antique kitchenware, jewelery, furniture, toys and dolls. Well-organized and not haphazardly piled and scattered like so many other antique stores, the Yankee Trader is a pleasure to walk through--especially if you're of a "certain age"! Take your kids and grandkids and explain what some of the things are--they will laugh themselves silly!

The Stage Stop is a large indoor arena of booths featuring antiques on consignment. Every booth is different form the other and that's what makes it so much fun. It's just plain fascinating to poke through all of the oddities featured here. Some of it's junk, some of it's valuable, some of it's just plain kitschy--but that's the joy of it. The aisles are wide and encourage you to relax and take your time looking for ideas, inspiration or that perfect antique treasure. Plan to spend a good chunk of time here, for its delights are meant to be savored.

This place brings together all sorts of pieces no longer used in hotel rooms. Consequently, if you need more than one of something at a good price, this is your place. When I bought my entertainment center, i had a hundred to choose from. Same with headboards, bureaus, lamps-- even art work. We bought my daughter her TV for her dorm room here.
They also carry draperies and bedspreads--basically anything you'd find in a hotel, you'll find here and in a variety of woods. If you look over your selection carefully, you can come away with like-new quality at a fraction of the cost.
Their sales staff is very helpful.

Coomers leases out booths to local crafters and artists, so their offerings are diverse. It's a home accent haven--with lots of creative gift ideas. Soaps, kid's clothes, home accents, jewelry, gift baskets, fashions--you name it! Even some antiques. The aisles are spacious and well laid out, so plan to spend some time browsing. It's a must at holiday time.
Everything is supposed to be hand made, but some of the booths smack of commercial products. If you can handle that, Coomers is a must!

This site is worth a look. The rooms are very odd--few of them are square, which gives an aura of the unexpected as you poke around the place. The eight-sided chapel is particularly interesting. The tour is self-guided and the staff will give you a pamphlet to guide you. They are also there to answer any additional questions you might have as you stroll through. The furniture is all form the period when the castle was constructed, so if you like antiques, it will pique your interest.
An added treat is the miniature museum on the ground floor. There are enough doll houses and furniture to keep you looking and fascinated for hours!
