And no, I'm not talking about the outlet malls. I am referring, of course, to the northernmost Burgerville on the I-5 corridor. If you have not yet had a Burgerville experience, I highly recommend taking a road trip down to the closest we Seattleites get to a local Burgerville. The real Tillamook cheese they grace their bacon cheeseburgers makes me swoon, but their crown jewel is their milkshakes. They come in seasonal flavors, so think real blackberries in the summer. Even their frozen yogurt shakes, also blended with fresh berries, are delicious--just don't take a sip of your friend's real milkshake and try to finish your froyo shake, cause you'll realize that those extra 20 G's of fat really do make your life more livable.

Schultzy's is one of the more delicious lunchtime restaurant options on the Ave. They have nice service, gigantic portions, and great plate options. It gets pretty crowded during the lunchtime rush, but the wait is definitely worth it. I found it worthwhile to err on the side of ordering not-too-spicy; my dog definitely had a kick to it. Oh and the fries... they will not disappoint. Have been touted as the best in Seattle.

SUBS is a great sandwich shop on the Ave and 50th, and after one trip there, you'll wonder why you ever listened to that annoying Jared from the commercials. The sandwiches at SUBS are so much better than anywhere else I've found. They have tons of fresh vegetables, lots of great cheese to choose from, and the portions are huge. If you're jonesin' for a sub and unable to leave your couch, they even deliver (on those kicky little scooters, no less).

Roosters is a great little coffee stand right across the street from Taco Time in Wallingford, and a jewel of a morning wakeup spot it is. The baristas are friendly and make wonderful coffee, the prices are lower than Starbucks, and you can buy knowing you're supporting a small local business. Try their chai; it's some of the best around. And make sure to tip well! (My roommate works there)

I bought my last pair of running shoes at Road Runner Sports and was very happy with the transaction. They spent a lot of personal time with me deciding which pair was best; I didn't feel like I was being rushed to decide. The staff are very helpful and are generally runners themselves, so you know you're getting advice from people who have already reviewed the shoes. I will definitely be buying all future pairs here.

That doesn't mean the drink specials go all day, but there is something to love at any time in this great post-work drinking spot (and I don't just mean the cute waiters). Their appetizers are generally good for two people and are always delish, and the drinks are tasty. Best of all, it's on the smallish side, so it feels intimate, though you could gather 8 people at the big tables comfortably. They open the big windows in the front on warm days, lending the place that al fresco feel. I must say I often rely on the promise of a drink at Kai's to keep me plugging away at my 8-5 job.

Because if you are, I know exactly where you can find the perfect gold lame party top for scoring free drinks: Forever 21 in the Alderwood Mall. I'm fully aware that if you're going to Vegas, you're probably already above the age of 21 and are thus embarassed to even think about shopping there, but it actually has some great clothes, and they are always ludicrously inexpensive. This place is always my first stop for cheap (and kinda skanky-- I'll admit it) party clothes, but they also have some great basic items and cute normal tops, too (which are all super long, which is nice for us tall girls).
Make sure you go armed with a dark pair of sunglasses(with which to disguise yourself as you're walking in), lots of patience (there are always 110 16-year-old girls dragging their bored boyfriends inside), and lots of time (it takes a while to sort through the trashy clothes if you're looking for something legitimate). However, some of my favorite pants and tops come from Forever 21. Just don't tell anybody I shop there.

Much as I'm loathe to admit it, I love going to the movies. When it's pouring and freezing outside, one of my favorite things to do is drive on up to Lynnwood, pick a film to watch, and settle into some mindless entertainment for a couple of hours (unless you're seeing Syriana or Munich, which you should-- those ones are thinkers). I like the Lynnwood theater best because there is always ample parking, it's enormous and thus has tons of films to choose from, and their food selection (when I'm feeling like dropping $15 on a small snack) is pretty good, for a theater (they have Starbucks). Plus, there's an architecturally lovely mall right next door if you're jonesing for a Cinnabon or a new pair of shoes afterwards.

I hate the bookstore just as much as the next Ave-dweller.. it's always crowded, the books are ludicrously priced, and you always have to dodge the Save the Children folks asking you if you hate kids to get inside. However, I have been totally impressed by their gift section, if only because you can find those awesomely funny slang vocabulary cards there (the ones with words like "props," "dis," and "hella dope" fully explained, complete with 1950s style explanatory cartoons). They also have a bitchin magazine section, perfect for loitering in on rainy days to read about the latest exploits of your favorite celebrity.

Every time someone asks me where they should take their date/grandmother/parole officer for dinner, I spasmastically yell out, "You must go to Crow!!" My godfather recommended this place to me, telling me that every time he comes to town he stays in the hotel across the street just so he can be close enough to eat there twice a day. Crow is the total package. It's in a great, central location (lower Queen Anne), and the building is an old renovated warehouse. The service is great, the drinks are tasty, and the food-- oh lord the food-- is wonderful. Try anything on the menu; my godfather has had them all and is equally enthusiastic about each entrée. I've only ever had the prosciutto-wrapped chicken the 10 times I've been there, because it's just that good.
