Although the Twisted Spoke first comes off as a biker bar (hence the name), the impressive tap and whiskey selection combined with a slightly gourmet spin on traditional bar fare appeals to even my non bar-loving wife. The burgers are particularly tasty (and huge); their price includes all the toppings, so you can pile the bacon and blue cheese as high as you want. My wife loves the tuna melt because it's infused with fresh ginger, giving it a real kick. They've also got some unique appetizers in addition to the standard onion rings and cheese sticks. Overall, surprisingly good food-- I suggest grabbing a table outside and relaxing with a pint and a few close friends.

Delilah's on Lincoln Ave is a far cry from the nearby Wrigleyville hipster locales. It's dark, kind of seedy, a little smokey, and has a fabulous tap selection, backed up by a great off-tap beer variety, and numerous quality liquors. In the times I've been there, the TVs have shown bizarre FAKK cartoons and Dean Martin movies, but it's all good background ambiance. During the warmer months, they open the windows wide and its a great place to enjoy a strong beer with friends.

I'd say that for most people, Water Tower Place is best viewed as a tourist attraction more than a functional mall. If you're looking for high-end retailers, specialty boutiques, and you are too lazy to walk down to the Marshall Fields on State, then Water Place is for you. My wife and I did some window shopping when we were first in the market for wedding rings. Granted, the experience is upscale and customer service is part of the package-- however, prices here are just really high. I still suggest visiting every once in a while; browsing at Water Tower Place will make you feel like a million dollars even if you don't have it to spend.

This bagel shop was one of our stops when my wife lived in Charles Village. They're most popular at breakfast, when you'll often find the college-aged crowd lining up out the door for egg sandwich bagel. They've got an impressive selection of home-baked bagels, but get there early if you want your first pick. They also usually have a good selection of local newspapers, so you can catch up on interesting upcoming events in Charles Village and the city.

If you've got a group that can't decide whether to satisfy their sweet tooth or enjoy a pint, give Xandos a try. This coffee bar is what it sounds like, a combination of a full service bar with a coffee shop. This one is open late, which is great for when the other restaurants in the area close for the night. The s'mores are probably the most widely known, but I suggest any of the arctic mochas.

This dollar store goes by the name "Deals." What you'll find is a mix of really good deals and some not-so-good deals. For paper goods, some cleaning supplies, and food products, $1 is a steal as the price. I found some gourmet hot chocolate that normally retails at 3.99, so paying $1 is fantastic. However, on the other hand, you'll find an assortment of things that aren't really that much of a bargain-- you can find similar deals at Walmart or Kmart. They've got a pretty large frozen/refrigerated section, but I haven't been brave enough yet to give it a try. Considering the size and overall cleanliness, it's a reliable dollar store.

My wife and I replaced our old watches with new ones from this store and had an overall mixed experience in the process. I found a great Guess watch for a really reasonable price and have had no problems with it. When my wife needed her band replaced by Time Factory, they never called to tell her the replacement was in, so she had to call them several months later. Thankfully, when we arrived to find that they ordered the wrong replacement, they replaced her entire watch rather than make her wait any longer. The service in the store deserves closer to 4 stars, but the overall service merits closer to 3.

My wife (then fiancee) lived at Christina Mill for two years and was really happy with her experience. From my own experience there, the apartments are spacious, and the leasing staff is extremely accommodating to those that abide by the rules and pay their rent on time. When my wife needed a two-week extension before moving out, they had no problem catering to her request. The two downsides to this complex are: 1. rent isn't cheap, and will most likely increase every year, and 2. parking can be an issue. Although a parking spot is guaranteed for every resident, we spent many evenings searching the complex for an available spot, only to find one halfway across the complex.

After you've had Potbelly, Subway will never satisfy you again. Potbelly's fun antique store theming combined with their affordable delicious toasted sandwiches make for a fantastic meal. This Potbelly is located in Wheaton at the center of the plaza. There's not a ton of seating, but I've never had a problem getting a table. For fast, fresh sandwiches for less than $5, you can't beat Potbelly's.

An evening at Neiman Marcus is enough to make a middle-class family feel poor. My wife and I checked out this large store in Oak Brook and were blown away by the designer threads available for large sums. We like playing "find the most expensive t-shirt in the store" here, but the attentive employees usually foil our fun with their "helpfulness." If you're looking for couture, designer apparel and expensive, expensive jewelry, Neiman Marcus is for you. The rest of the world, including myself, will be over at Penneys.
