There is no better way to experience Winterthur Museum and Gardens than to start with brunch or lunch at the Garden Cafeteria. They feature gourmet selections, daily panini specials, and an extensive salad bar. My wife and I and her family celebrated her graduation with their Sunday brunch. Although it's not cheap, you can't beat the view of the gardens or the delicious buffet spread of hot and cold foods.

Although Newark Deli and Bagels serves up some decent bagel sandwiches, it can't really compare to Bagelmania a few minutes away. The sandwiches here aren't huge and are overpriced; it's not really that surprising considering that they are on the University of Delaware meal plan flex option. My wife loves their coffee here, but I don't have much of an opinion. Unless you're desperate for a bagel, save your money for something better.

Deer Park Tavern is exactly what you would expect from a college town's local pub: cheap food, drink specials, and a young atmosphere. Depending on the season, Deer Park regulars shift from college frat guys to townies and locals. Their half price burger day packs the place, but be on the lookout for undercooked meat; I've had to send mine back a number of times. Their nachos and wings are equally as tasty, but don't expect more than bar food. While you're there, ask your server about Edgar Allen Poe's visits to Deer Park.

Buckingham Fountain is one of those Chicago landmarks that make you proud to live in the Windy City. This beautifully crafted fountain in Grant Park dates back to the World's Fair and occasionally shoots a huge geyser of water into air. It's seasonally operational, so when you see the fountain in all its majesty in full operation, you know the summer festivals can't be far behind!

Christiana Mall is the anti-shopper's nightmare-- low prices, a confusing layout, and no sales tax. If you bring your shopaholic wife or girlfriend, you may never leave! There's an exit right off I-95 for this mall, and there's plenty of free parking. You'll find all the big anchor stores, including Macy's, Strawbridges, and JC Penney's. There's a sizable food court and a Ruby Tuesday's if you're in the mood for table service. Overall a good mall, but for all you men out there, don't say I didn't warn you!

Although Bacino's self-advertises as "heart healthy," I don't really see how a chunk of dough, cheese, and meat can be good for you. Still, Bacino's serves up fantastic Chicago-style pizza, pasta, and some surprisingly complex appetizers. The dining room isn't huge, but the servers are friendly and prompt. One of my favorites in the city.

Chicago's is probably my favorite Chicago-style pizza, although my wife disagrees with me. They serve the traditional stuffed pizza packed with cheese and your choice of topping with diced tomatoes crowning the entire thing. This is one pizza you'll want to order ahead and take to go though, as there's not much room to eat there.

The Tweeter Center is your typical outdoor mega-amphitheater. There's two types of seating-- one is covered and has assigned seating, and the other is a giant open lawn. Acoustics aren't too bad, but the roar of the crowds in the lawn seats combined with overcompensating speakers pretty much kill any sound balance the artist is trying to achieve. Still, it's a reasonably-priced venue for many big name groups.

If you're a chocoholic, then Margie's Candies will make your day. Margie's is a traditional ice cream soda fountain, with just enough kitsch to make your sundae taste that much better. Prices are pretty reasonable, and the menu itself is rather extensive. One of my friends is an absolute dessert nut, and he salivates at the mention of Margie's.

The Green Mill is a quintessential jazz club, so don't come here expecting to shake your groove thing to techno. If you're a fan of a sitting back and soaking in some great jazz, then this is for you. I'm not a huge mixed drink lover, so I found the beer selection a little limited for my liking. It's also usually packed, so either find a "regular" with a reserved table or expect to squeeze yourself into a corner. Overall, a great evening out.
