This is a nice place to go when you are in the mood for something different. Save room to try one of the dessert beverages.

Passage To India is a great spot for Indian lunch buffet, with one side of meat dishes and one side of vegetarian dishes. I always fill up on the pakoras (vegetables battered in garbanzo bean flour and deep fried) and the dal (yellow lentils) is fabulous when they have it. Try the dark brown tamarind sauce to add a lovely sweetness to any spicy dish.

Paradise is a unique dining experience on the back side of the huge shopping center at El Camino and Grant. They offer a small menu of Afghan and Persian specialties. The humus was disappointing but the rest of our meal was good. There are a number of vegetarian and meat-based selections and your server can help you decide.

Nijiya is a great Japanese market to find any specialty Japanese ingredient or just to browse. They have a decent selection of sake, pre-made ramen bowls, seasonings, sushi ingredients, etc. I would highly recommend checking it out at least once. It is located in a large parking lot just off the 85 on El Camino.

Lovely decor and great margaritas make Vive Sol worth a visit. There is a patio to dine on when the weather is warm. They serve three salsas and the service is good. I always get the vegetarian burrito, which is delicious. We went here to celebrate the night we got engaged.

My friends like King of Krung Siam Thai Restaurant best for Thai but I prefer Amarin down the street. The appetizers are great, including the po pia tod. We love the ginger dish (I get it vegetarian and my husband gets it with chicken). Many of the dishes have funny names in English.

You can always get a last-minute reservation on Open Table. We think the cater to businessmen and that is why they are always empty of the weekend. Piatti offers upscale Italian food with a lovely atmosphere. Stay away from the house wine. The vegan options are few, so I ask the chef to whip me up a surprise.
