Maybe the meat is good? But my veggie dish came slathered in a thick brown sauce that had absolutely no flavor. Serivce was abrupt, but not rude. The space is huge. The dim sum was only offered after we'd already ordered and received; it would have been welcome when we were first seated and hungry. I won't be back.

Westgate has all the normal mall trappings, but it is also a great destination for dining. There is a huge parking lot on Saratoga with a Willow Street "Best Wood-Fired Pizza and More", Max's, Johnny Rockets, Chevys, etc. The anchor stores include Barnes & Noble, Burlington Coat Factory, Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, Ross, and Target.

Oakridge is a nice mall, not quite as great as Valley Fair, but it is also a Westfield Shoppingtown. There are a number of resturants, including P F Changs, Cheesecake Factory, etc. The Apple Store here is very small. Aeropostale has a great sales rack. There is also a huge, two-storey Target. Parking can be terrible. This is in a central location with Babies R Us and Home Depot nearby.

Westfield Shoppingtown Valley Fair is a seriously huge mall, with two floors, each with two main aisles. They cater to kids, including balloons, a play area, strollers, and a family restroom where you can feed and change your baby. There are a ton of stores and a decent food court. It can be VERY crowded on the weekends.

Santana Row is a lovely upscale shopping district designed for pedestrian traffic. This si a great place to window shop, sample yummy food, and shop. People here are very dressed up, which amuses me. One end leads to the Valley Fair Mall. The other end houses an art house movie theatre. be sure to check out the Mai Do statiorery store. There is a farmer's market on the weekend.

Pizza Antica makes thin artisan pizza; we think the small is a better deal than the large. They also offer some great salads and soups, sometimes vegetarian. There can be a long wait, but you can put your name in and stroll around Santana Row. We got take-out once, and they put meat in the salad I ordered without meat.

Sino offers very high-end Chinese food. I found my drink to be both expensive and not very tasty. My entree, dry cooked string beans, was very good. A friend ordered a beef dish, which cost $18! The service was not very good. Sino has fabulous decor. Be sure to check out the bathroom, which has no door on it and has cut outs above the sinks so you can look into the bathroom of the other gender; it's really bizarre.

Rick and Ann's is a very popular breakfast spot -- so popular that the wait can be unbearable. I've only had the breakfast popatoes (because I'm vegan) which are good but not to-die-for, but everyone seems to be gaga for their pancakes and other breakfast fare. If you arrive starving, the wait will make you crazy.

I've always love Racha and I've eaten there dozens of times. The service is excellent, and they always verified that I wanted my vegetarian food without fish sauce. I love the Pad See Ew. That said, my dining companions never seem as impressed with Racha and there are so many other Thai places in Berkeley to choose from.

Fine Fine offers great Ethiopian in a very cool little restaurant collective on Telegraph. They are across the street from The Blue Nile, but Fine Fine is more authentic (and spicier!). The dishes are wonderfully spiced and the injera (the flat bread you use to scoop up your food) has just the right texture.
