Without my having paid attention, my previous Allstate agent's book of business was transferred to Saxton Insurance Agency when she retired. They called me up one day to try to sell me an umbrella policy. Nicole, our agent within the agency, is very nice and low-key. I transferred my auto policy to them (home was already with them) and purchased an umbrella policy. What I like about them is that I call up with "hypothetical" questions such as, "Hypothetically, a tree limb fell on my roof and cracked 16 roof tiles - should I file a claim?" Of course, it's not really a hypothetical question but she advises me that hypothetically I would lose my claim-free discount, etc. and it wouldn't be worth it. She is very approachable and helpful. If you are in the market for switching insuarnce companies or agencies, I highly recommend Saxton.

I saw a review on Hairmasters earlier today. I have to give kudos to Alice at the Hairmasters in Factoria (Bellevue, WA). I have been going to Alice for almost 12 years and I will see no one but her. She is a "master stylist" with Hairmasters and she takes such great care and I have never EVER had a problem with my hair! I love it every time! There was a time when I strayed and this other stylist at Hairmasters completely fried my hair. It was horrible. I think Alice must have been on vacation or something and I was desperate. She knows my family so well and is always asking about them. She really cares about her clients and wants to make sure we are happy. I see her for foils/highlights but I also used to get spiral perms from her (however, my hair turned very curly all by itself after my first child was born and now I don't need perms - weird! But saves me money!). Anyway, if you are looking for someone great, I totally recommend Alice at Factoria Hairmasters.

Thai Chef is located in the Evergreen Village shopping center in Bellevue. This restaurant has been open for at least ten years. The wait staff is very friendly and they are always asking about my family (when I get my take-out!). The quality of the food is very good and the service is fast. My favorites are the beef phad kee mao and the Emerald Chicken which is chicken with spinach leaves and peanut sauce over rice. There are some good appetizers to choose from including the chicken satay and the hermit prawns. The proximity to Safeway is great because I can run in and grab a few groceries while I am waiting for my order. This is a good restaurant if you are craving Thai food!

Am I the only one who secretly wants to go to IHOP without anyone noticing? There is just something about being able to get breakfast all day long which is quite appealing. I've always been attracted to the diner-style restaurants. Where else but IHOP can you get all sorts of fruity-flavored syrups that are sitting right at your table, calling your name? This IHOP is close to my work place and sits there, taunting me... the food is not exceptional by any means but it is comforting.

The Orchid Tree has been around for quite a while and for good reason. The quality is great and the staff is friendly. I personally like the General's chicken (although it comes in gigantic hunks that you have to cut with a knife rather than shoving the whole thing in your mouth) and the sesame beef. If you are feeling particularly anti-social, you can sit in the back dining area where they have a television on. This place is also a good option for take-out. There is ample parking as they are located behind a strip mall.

In my opinion, this Chinese restaurant is just okay. Their chicken dishes (such as the General Tso's or the orange chicken) are kind of saucy and mushy. I'm not a big fan of saucy and mushy. I am having a lot of trouble finding a Chinese restaurant that I like in the Redmond/Bellevue area. I want someone that has a really crispy chicken dish and just can't find it. The Shi-Jin was a bit of a disappointment and it doesn't have a great atmosphere.

Mayuri Indian restaurant is located in the complex which also houses Trader Joe's and Longs Drugs. I love their lunch buffet. I stock up and overstuff myself on the chicken makhani, naan and tandoori chicken. Then to really overdo it, I enjoy a nice bowl of fermi (like rice pudding). The service here is good and the restaurant is clean. They attract a lot of business from Microsoft and the surrounding companies. Parking can be a little tight but there's usually spots to be found. Definitely worth a long lunch.

We have been long-time frequenters of Raga, starting with their restaurant in Bellevue (which was mysteriously burned down??). Most of the time when we go out for Indian it is for the lunch buffet. However, dinner here is excellent as well. I usually go for the tandoori dishes but I also like the saucy or creamy dishes such as the chicken tikka masal or the rice dishes such as the chicken biryani. Don't forget to treat yourself to appetizers such as samosa or pakoras. Delicious.

When Claim Jumper first opened in Redmond Town Center, it was hugely popular and the wait times were very long. Well, things have calmed down quite a bit in the years that it has been open. The interior is large yet homey with a nice, warm fireplace in the front. The meals are GIGANTIC which is usually good (although who wants a huge bunch of broccoli, hmm...). I can eat a lot but I always end up taking food home because everything they serve you is enormous. The staff is about average and the service time is within normal limits. Their chocolate cake is sooo good that I haven't bothered to try other desserts yet. We love their baby back ribs and I generally like any of their chicken dishes.

When I first saw the name of this restaurant in downtown Kirkland I thought it might be a Japanese restaurant. Turns out it is a Chinese dim sum restaurant. I was a bit skeptical at first because it was new and I tend to gravitate toward the tried and true. However, I am also a coupon freak and I received a coupon in a Valu-Pack type mailing. My husband and I ventured out to try it. The quality of the dim sum is very good and it is quite tasty. The downside is everything they served was cold, whether it was supposed to be or not. It was very good; if they heated up the food a little it would be excellent. Try to score a free parking spot on the street, otherwise there is a paid lot across the street from the restaurant.
