I do most of my grocery shopping at QFC because there are two locations quite convenient to our daycare. I find the one at Bella Bottega to be the busiest but it is also my favorite. There is always someone at the customer service desk to cash in my lottery tickets for me =) whereas at the Redmond Way location you may have to wait quite a while for someone to come. Also, there is a Bank of America located at the Bella Bottega QFC which is where I do a lot of my banking. Not to mention the Panda Express which is good for a quick dinner. QFC has fair prices and can have some good sales. I find the staff to be very friendly as well.

I don't do my regular grocery shopping at Fred Meyer because it's not closest in proximity, but I really like going there when I can. Fred Meyer was one of the pioneers of non-stop shopping. At the Fred Meyer closest to my house, they have groceries, general merchandise (toys, patio furniture, housewares, etc.), clothing, a Starbucks (of course) and even a small Barnes and Noble. I shop at Fred Meyer whenever I buy a birthday cake because their bakery is very good quality. I also stop by once in a while to pick up their coupon books because Albertsons accepts Fred Meyer coupons! :)

I like Quiznos sandwiches. They are more expensive than Subway but I also find them tastier. The employees at my local store are not the brightest bulbs in the box but what can do you. The manager is always friendly and nice. My favorite sandwiches are the hot subs like the mesquite chicken or the black Angus steak. It's been a while since I had their soup but that was good, also.

Fran's Chocolates is a candy store local to the Seattle area, but it has been featured nationally on the Food Network. You enter the store and the smell of chocolate is heavenly. My dear favorite is the Gold Bar Brownie which seems to have brownie, caramel, nuts, etc. I don't know the ingredients but they are wonderful. They have some interesting things like chocolate with coarse salt on it. Fran's also has torte cakes and their own ice cream. Two locations that I am familiar with are in University Village and Old Bellevue.

My dad was a manager back when it was Seattle First National Bank... then Seafirst... now Bank of America. At one point, Bank of America bought out Seafirst. I still accidentally call our locations Seafirst.
Anyway, I really like Bank of America because there are SO MANY locations. Most of the tellers I've had experience with are friendly. The branch located in the grocery store near where I live is the best. One guy is very polite, remembers my name, and always says, "That's not necessary," when I show him my i.d. because he knows me. Heh.
They have a good online banking service where you can link all of your accounts together.

We bank at First Tech Credit Union. This is a good credit union with two locations close to us (Bellevue and Redmond). The tellers are friendly. The Bellevue location has three teller windows and two video tellers. I always use the video tellers because there never seems to be a line for them. With the video tellers, you are looking at and talking to regular people but they are upstairs (at Bellevue) or in the back room (at Redmond). Not sure why Bellevue has a mix of both and Redmond only has the video. I imagine with bank robberies on the rise and all it is safer to have video tellers. Good credit union with friendly people.

For me, the highlight of going to Milt's BBQ is Milt himself. He always likes to tease me but he is such a nice man. He used to be a social worker or something like that - and knows how to chat it up while giving you a hard time. I like the BBQ chicken dinners. You get a couple of sides and I choose the potato salad and red beans and rice. My husband likes to get the BBQ beef sandwich. I think that comes with one side. This place can get a little slow if it is busy. They are not necessarily in a hurry to get your order out fast. Just a little warning there - you may have to wait a bit.

I am so pleased there is a Malay Satay Hut near where I live. The decor of the restaurant is really nice. It's an attractive atmosphere. The food is excellent. I particularly like the baby oyster pancake and the Chinese pork chops. Of course, don't forget your bread with the curry dipping sauce (sorry but I forgot what it's called - I'm getting old). A delicious dessert is the banana pancake. At last check, they didn't take credit cards for purchases under $25 but maybe they've changed it. Anyway, this place is delicious and so worth a try.

We were THIS CLOSE to buying a Saab with Carter. Our salesperson was B.C. I specifically told him what model I was looking for. When he came back with the deal, it seemed like a great price. I said, "Okay, I just want to clarify that this is for the ____ model." He said, "No, you told me you wanted the ____ model." He said I told him the wrong thing. I bailed out of the deal right then. Later on, I was looking at the business card he gave me. He had written on the back the model I asked for, not the one he quoted me - but obviously had the nerve to say I told him the wrong model. Even though the right one was written by him on the back of his business card. Kind of slimey.

We bought a Subaru Outback at Chaplin's in December 2005. They were very low-key and no pressure. They let you take the car out as long as you want (okay, within reason) for a test drive. And you get to take it out by yourself. I drove it home to try it out on my driveway and make sure the car didn't bottom out going over my curb (it didn't). We took a couple of days to make the offer. My husband accidentally wrote down a price $200 above what he meant to write down and gave it to the salesperson. When the salesperson came back and said the offer was accepted, my husband said, oops, I meant to say $200 less. The salesperson didn't even get mad, bless his heart. They accepted the new offer.
There hasn't been quite as much follow-up as I would have liked in checking to see if we like our new car but I guess I am spoiled that way.
All in all, a very good experience (although their parking lot is VERY cramped!!!).
