Lakeshore Learning Store is such a great place for parents and educators alike. They have everything that my child's teacher recommends for his development. I have bought all sorts of things there, including "manipulatives" (to increase hand strength and coordination), CDs, a nap mat. The downside is you can really go broke there. They have a discount for teachers but I don't qualify, unfortunately! They have art activities for the kids once in a while. It's great fun to go and look around.

You can always find good prices at the Rack. I look mainly for clearance prices on kids' clothes because obviously those darned kids are constantly growing! Shoes, pants, shirts... ka-ching! I prefer to get good quality clothes at discount prices by shopping at the Rack. Most of the clothes are brought in from the regular Nordstrom stores (although there are some brands that I'm sure come directly to the Rack). I also find the hair products that I use from time to time, like Bedhead. They always have sheets, throw pillows, etc. It's fun to look around.

Red Robin used to be the in place to go back in the good old days. Now there are newer, hipper restaurants that have taken its place. Plus, people seem more accustomed to/geared toward going to ethnic restaurants rather than American fare. But I still like to stop by once in a while for the Royal Red Robin Burger. And also to hear the wait staff sing "Happy Birthday" to some poor embarrassed birthday person. The restaurant could use a little updating. Still a good place to take your kids because it's okay for them to be kids there.

Kind of a dark little casino which is built out of modular double-wides, but it is a tourist attraction in the Lake Chelan area. They used to have the only coin slots in the state of Washington but they eventually replaced them with the paper ticket machines. The restaurant is good and is probably one of the better places to eat in the Manson area.

My 5 year old has had 4 lessons with Aikido Kids now. He is doing great. I signed him up for it to build up his physical abilities and self-esteem. It's a bit expensive but I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run. Today he took his first test and earned a mark toward the next color belt (he started out with white but is moving toward yellow, I think). I kind of have to talk him into going every week, not because he doesn't like it but because he goes right after swimming lessons which kind of tire him out. Big thumbs up for Aikido Kids!

Pottery Barn Kids is a great store. It's a little expensive for me so I generally peruse the sale items. What I love to get is their holiday tablecloths. I have tablecloths for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are really cute and have appropriate designs sewn (appliqued?) onto them. I also like to get bedding and bath towels at this store. They have hooded bath towels that look like animals that my kids love for swimming lessons.

I don't know the name of his business (or even if he has a business) but we have a great gardener named Alberto Garcia. If you are in Redmond and need someone good to take care of your yard, let me know and I will pass along his address and phone number. We used to have a guy who came every couple of weeks and all I could tell that he did was use a blower to clean off our driveway. There were weeds everywhere and nothing was being taken care of. So I dumped him for Alberto Garcia. Alberto does a great job and I wouldn't trade him for anything! The cost is about $150 a month so it's not cheap, but it's totally worth it.

I must say that I like to buy Washington state lottery scratch tickets. The nice thing is knowing my money is going toward public schools (allegedly!). The most I have won is $1,000 on a scratch ticket but I have won lots of prizes of $100 or $150. I'm positive I have a net loss but I still like to take a chance and buy a scratch ticket. They are always coming out with new games (I think about once a month). Right now there is a $20 (yikes) game which has 5 prizes of $1 million.
