More than just a mini mart! The Chalet Grocery and Deli is a longtime resident of Redmond Way. I read somewhere that they are well-known for their sandwiches. I went in and asked for a grilled ham and cheese. It seemed to take a while to make, but I have to say it was tasty. It was lovingly hand-crafted! Grilled to perfection. The service was friendly. They have an extensive selection of convenience store goods for all of your needs! Check them out and try one of their sandwiches.

I go to Hancock's Bakery when I need breakfast treats for home or work. They have a small bakery counter but it is home to some delicious goodies. I particularly like the "roll ups" pastries. They also have good turnovers in flavors like cherry or apple. You can get a good sized box of treats for around $5. Also, they usually have a coupon in the Entertainment Book that I like to use. Their cakes are custom made and quite tasty as well. You can get your espresso there in the morning, or a smoothie. They are conveniently located across from the post office on NE 85th Street. Give them a try.

My husband and I have been on vacation this week and we like to go and try new (to us) restaurants at lunch time. When we can enjoy our solitude away from the kids! We wanted to try a sushi restaurant in the Belltown area of Seattle. The restaurant is called Saito. When we first arrived and were seated at our table, the waitress came over and we ordered. She was very slow to deliver the drinks and that made me concerned because the restaurant wasn't busy at all at that time. It turns out that she was slow because she was concerned about the strength of the iced tea and was trying to make it right! We ordered the tempura appetizer which was light, crunchy and delicious. We also each ordered the lunch sushi plate. It came with a wonderful miso soup and a salad that was very tasty and interesting. The sushi was fresh and not "fishy" tasting at all. A very enjoyable meal.

They opened up a Whole Foods market / grocery store in my city several months ago. There has been one in the neighboring city for quite some time but I have never visited. My husband and I are on vacation this week and I thought it might be interesting to pop in to see what it is like. We walked in on the side with the ice cream shop, the fresh foods, the salad bar, etc. We were very impressed with the displays and the selections. They had gelato at the ice cream counter and I have never had gelato before, so asked for a sample. It was very good (and we both ate a bowl of gelato before we left the store! The chocolate orange flavor was delicious). We visited at a time when the store was very quiet so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was nice to browse and see all of the organic displays. I wish it was in a better location - the traffic around there gets really bad in the evening. If it was easier to access, I'd definitely consider picking up some hot food for dinner now and then. Very nice store and memorable.

Arthur and Associates plants themselves at various local malls to do seasonal photos such as photos with Santa. We take the kids (3 and 6 this year) to Redmond Town Center to have their photos taken with the Big Guy. We try to go early in the season, right when they first open so that we don't have to wait in line for too long (if at all). You can either pick up your photo at the mall a few days later or have it mailed to you. They accept credit cards.
They were patient with my daughter (3) who wasn't sure whether or not she wanted to be around this Santa person. She finally caved and they managed to get a good photo... of her. They partially cut my son's ear off in the photo. My husband said maybe we can get a retake but I don't want to go to the mall and do the whole thing over again.
The cute thing was that in addition to a candy cane, they handed out a rubber duckie decked out in a Santa outfit.

Ralph Lauren Rugby is a relatively new store located in Seattle's University Village shopping center. It is located near the Hallmark, Barnes and Noble, etc. The interior of the store is well-appointed, with your typical high-priced (but high-quality, to be fair!) Ralph Lauren clothing. This is more of a casual clothing line for them. There are casual clothes such as denim skirts for women, and polos and rugby styles for men. The customer service there is great and the store management is friendly and accommodating. This is a great store if you like the look and feel of Ralph Lauren. My family of four went to Ray's Cafe for Thanksgiving dinner because I didn't feel like cooking a turkey for just me, my husband and my two little ones. Ray's Cafe has a well-reknowned Thanksgiving buffet which always sells out. So we made the reservations well in advance and off we went. The parking lot was extremely crowded and we immediately opted for the free valet parking. That came in really handy. We had to wait several minutes for our table and the kids were restless. They gave us a great table at the window, with a view of Lake Union. The waitress took forever to come and take our drink order. It happened sometime during my turn at the buffet (my husband had gone first and I went second). Overall, the waitress was very slow, not even checking back to see if we needed refills on our drinks. I ended up asking the busboy for more Diet Coke. The buffet was good. In addition to turkey and prime rib, they had lots of fresh shrimp and tuna sashimi. The desserts were two-bite size and very good. I do wish they had a buffet offering for the kids, such as chicken strips or grilled cheese sandwiches. The kids were stuck eating the adult food. My son doesn't operate that way so I had brought him a Lunchables to eat (although we still had to pay for his buffet meal).

Sony Style Store - say that ten times fast. A Sony Style Store recently opened in the University Village shopping center in Seattle. It is a store full of fancy gadgetry - the new VAIO PCs, bright LCD TVs, MP3 players, BluRay technology (meant to replace DVDs). Everything is eye-catching and bright. I had an occasion to speak with the manager and she was very friendly and helpful. In addition to their big electronic items, they have lots of smaller gadgets and doodads such as MP3 players, video games, etc. There was a demo set up of the new PS3. It's been a long time since I've seen a video game, I guess - the PS3 is extremely realistic-looking. Fun store to browse and admire new technology.

Although Safeway wasn't rated by Consumer Reports as having the least expensive groceries in my area (Fred Meyer was), I shop at Safeway because they are covered by The Grocery Game website, which is a deals website. I print out my list from the Grocery Game for Safeway each week, clip my coupons, and go off to shop. I like my local Safeway store for many reasons. Their customer service/video counter is always staffed from 9am on. There is a different grocery store near me where you have to wait forever at the customer service counter for someone to show up. But Safeway's is always staffed. I also like their bakery. The food there is always fresh, and I buy my childrens birthday cakes there as well. The one thing I don't like about Safeway is that their pricing on specials is done at the store level and a lot of times the promotions or prices can be screwed up. For example, there was one where if I bought a certain quantity of a certain toothpaste, the register would print out a $5 coupon toward my next grocery purchase. That consistently didn't work and they didn't make a move to fix it. All in all, I like Safeway.

I had occasion to go to the Benjamin Moore paint store because I had a coupon for a free gallon of paint. Which was very exciting for me because I love free stuff! I was worried that they would be snooty with me because I was there for my free paint and nothing else. But I was very pleasantly surprised at the courteous service I received. The employees were friendly. The store was clean and nicely laid out. Most paint stores smell like paint but this one didn't (which was easy on my nose). The displays were interesting to view as I was waiting for my paint to be prepared.
