Glad to see that they send out birthday free ice cream coupons on email for the kiddies when you go to their website to sign the kids up for their birthday club. And coupons for $3 off ice cream cakes, although I won't use it because those are a bit expensive and that would mean that I would need to hold a large birthday party for my little one year old in a city where we don't know many others locally. This is a nice little location, easy to get to, a little smallish on the inside, always friendly service from the local teenager of the month, and a fun time for the kids.

We went to this Subway (on 9th and Broadway in the Theatre district in downtown Tacoma) in between errands to have lunch. Everyone was pretty hungry and I'm trying to convince them all to eat healthier so I drove here. I was surprised to see that they don't have stamps or the Subway points card, so you get no added bonuses when you spend an outrageous sum of money on your sandwiches. I think Subway in general is a tad expensive for what amounts to a fresher deli sandwich.
These owners are pretty skimpy. Evidently, the local library was having a kids reading rewards program this summer, and kids who completed the program got free kids meals at Subway. A woman came off the bus with her two kids and their hard-won SUbway coupons, only to get denied by this franchise. You could tell she was a single mom, didn't have much money and was counting on the free meals for her hungry kids. And the owner of this franchise told her no a few times. He wouldn't feed the kids, basically, and honor the coupons that these kids worked so hard for.
I won't eat at this Subway again, because of that. I thought it was a really ignorant shame for these owners to be so evil and greedy to turn away a stressed out mom and her two hungry kids who obviously didn't have much money and who had spent a lot of time in the library reading a lot of books just to get two free kids meals. And not to mention that this is the ONLY Subway out of the many Puget Sound area Subways I've been to that will NOT give out stamps or points.
SHAME SHAME SHAME on this greedy Subway franchise owner! Oh, this is the one a few doors down from the Children's Museum of Tacoma and the only one in downtown Tacoma evidently, so lots of business people go here as well as moms and kids. Please make sure to tell your friends and associates and family not to frequent this Subway for how mean they were to this family. I don't know how they sleep at night denying hungry children food.

I just LOVED Danken's, and it was great when my old roommate worked there. Free ice cream, until she turned mean. Oh well. This is still a fantastic place for ice cream - it's been here longer than most Ave establishments (used to be Danken's). Very young-college-kid-esque, but damn good ice cream. My kids love it. We go here after we hit Pagliacci's. Great memories from when I was in college. I used to find out what was going on all over Seattle just by going here and reading the posters. Of course, that was before the internet LOL.

We have seen many a pediatrician, and without a doubt, Dr. Springer and his staff are the BEST, hands down. They listen to you, don't hurry you or demean you, and the kids like it here. It's a busy practice, but never once have I felt like it was a factory or kid mill like most other pediatric offices around. I used to drive up from Renton just to go see them, they were that much better.
These providers truly care about kids' health, and Dr. Springer is far and away one of the most intelligent and nicest people I've ever met. We also saw the ARNPs (Betsy Ormond mostly - GREAT provider!) You can tell they really care about kids. He told us that he now works primarily with adolescents and was finishing some post-grad work in homeopathy. My midwives recommended him, and so do many parents. I always recommend Wallingford Peds to my childbirth class participants.

My first experience with acupuncture was with Paul. He was just starting out with his own practice, and it grew so much that he got his own office. I appreciated his skill and calmness so much, since I was going through some difficult life changes when I saw him. He was younger than me, but had wisdom beyond his age. I greatly appreciate and am thankful for Paul's gentle help in my introduction to acupuncture and Chinese herbs. He was a great stepping stone for me on my journey. I don't feel that Paul's knowledge base back then included as much female treatments, so I moved on to another acupuncturist who could understand pregnancy and lactation better. Paul is a great provider for chronic pain, injuries, and emotional healing though.

I was very impressed with the Chinese Medicine clinic here. The students were thoroughly trained and understood well. They were great listeners. What I was really impressed by was their teachers, who were obviously some of the best in China, now working here at Bastyr. Bastyr has a sterling reputation in this field, and it shows in this clinic. I have seen several providers here, and so have my kids. They are affordable, take insurance, and even though the visits are a tad long (student clinic), they are very thorough and calming. I very much enjoyed going here...too bad I live too far away. These people are experts at treating the whole person...and they were a lot better than the ND clinic downstairs.

I took my kids to Dr. Lee-Engel a few times, and I was always happy with the care that we received. She used tuning forks on my kids, not needles. She was attentive, caring, professional, and above all, really understood what was going on with my kids. She used a combined Eastern and Western approach, and it worked. I'm so glad we went to her. Now we live too far away. I would recommend her and One Sky Medicine to anyone.

I went to the Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM group) here at Group Health for both of my sons. The same midwife caught both of my boys. When I got pregnant for the first time, it just so happened that I called the OB clinic to make a standard appointment, and thankfully, their OBs were not available, so they offered midwives (I had no idea!), and I chose them because I just needed an appointment. That one phone call changed my life and my perspective on life forever.
I have to give these midwives top-notch praise. There's a reason why these midwives and clinic are the most highly rated in Seattle, and the most long-standing hospital midwifery service in the state. 45 minute appointments, excellent caring staff, a welcoming attitude to questions (no question is ever bad), and tons of resources. I felt so reassured by these knowledgeable and competent women, even when I got scared.
They actually talk with you to make sure that all of your concerns are addressed, just like midwives are known to do (far and away making them better than most OBs, who clock in at 4 minutes per appointment).
I had two great births there, and if I had to have another hospital birth (my last was a planned, happy homebirth with a Licensed Midwife), I'd choose here. They treat you like a human with feelings and needs, treasuring birth, not a malpractice suit waiting to happen. That's why their hospital-birth stats are the healthiest and best in the state. If you choose a hospital birth, get thee to these midwives.

I'm not going to be like the other cool people who have reviewed the restaurant and crapped on it. There's quite a few "hip" Seattle places that serve crappy food and crappy atmosphere that the cool people just love.
Every time I've been to the Needle restaurant (about 5 times), I've had great food, better than some other well-known Seattle restaurants. I'm not going to join the Needle bashing, because they've greatly improved their menus and the quality of the food. It's hard to cook at a higher altitude than the rest of Seattle, and they do a good job of it.
The viewing experience is outstanding, almost as good as the view from the Columbia Tower Club. Maybe their tummies were upset by the Needle taking a full rotation around Seattle every hour? Or perhaps they don't like the well-deserved notoreity and how the Space Needle has become the symbol of Seattle. Sometimes, I'm tired of the smugness of transplanted or woe-is-me Seattleites.
I'm a native Seattleite, and for what it's worth, I'd go to this place for a special occasion meal faster than I'd go to the traditional places like Ray's (even though that's awesome, it's definitely overpriced and hard to get to). The best restaurant in Seattle for food and experience is Canlis, and I doubt the "cool" people will trash their overpriced food or views.
