I can't tell you how much we love Macrina - it's one of the best we've found in the area and few Seattleites will disagree. It's fairly easy to get to - though I'd recommend finding what you want (on their website) calling in the order and then picking it up... Sometimes what they have on-hand can go quickly.

I've taken multiple family members on the Underground tour and all have found it quite interesting and enjoyable... It's especially great if you go on a rainy day -- perfect thing to do to introduce them to Seattle's past and, if you haven't done it, you should go too.
Other areas we've enjoyed include Port Townsent, Ruby Beach (on the coast), Bellingham and of course, Vancouver.
But, if you want to stay within the city, start down with the Underground... Great stuff to see down there and then, when you're done, go have a beer at one of the old ale houses down there.

My partner and I go to Tulay Kent who's right on 45th in Wallingford... She's been great - wonderful staff, very friendly and always accomodating. Just as nice is that there's always been parking!!
I believe they give discounts to newcomers and referrals, so if you go, just mention you were referred by me and you should get a nice discount.

Having worked in auto before -- this is actually quite easy as it has more to do with the brand of the battery than the person who installs it... But only a little.
If you don't know how to install it yourself, go buy the battery from Sears or somewhere similar and ask a mechanic to install it for you.
Or, head on over to your favorite mechanic. Most will buy from NAPA or offer Diehard batteries. Those are fine. The last I read in Consumer Reports, NAPA brand batteries were fine and offered a good warranty.
If you live anywhere near Ballard/Fremont, I'd suggest visiting Superior Auto Service on Leary Way. They've been great to me and I'm confident they'd treat you well.

Went to BluWater on South Lake Union the other night with some friends. We had never been there but based on some of what we'd read, we thought it would be a good adventure.
Adventure is definitely what it turned into. We arrived and were immediately sat away from everyone else in a corner overlooking the trash bins... Apparently due to the size of our party (5 - not the 6 required for a reservation) this was the one table they had that didn't have obscene lighting on it (I'll talk about that more later).
We took it, not knowing about the wonderful view (of the trash cans) when we sat down. We learned of the view when we asked to open the shades so we could see the water...
Okay, so we asked to be moved -- and were, to a table with a better view. However, in order to sit at the table, we had to put up with not just one, but two, 100 watt halogen bulbs in their sconces next to the table. At first we thought this wouldn't be an issue - but it quickly grew into something where we were trying to devise ways of hiding the light and managing a better ambiance. Ultimately, we ended up propping two menus in a triangle over the lamp just to dim the light to a degree where we weren't burning our faces (okay, so it wasn't quite that bad).
Eventually the food arrived. We enjoyed the wine so we were fine with the delay on the food... Until we tasted it.
We had raviolli, steaks, fish and their "gyros bites." All were terrible -- and cold.
The steaks were mediocre cuts that hadn't been cooked very well. Most dishes were served with mashed potatoes -- all of them were cold.
The fish dish was hard, rubbery and old. The gyros bites, well, let's just say it was a 15 year old who was eating them and he said he'd never order them again... That should say something.
The service was poor overall with a waitress who did not know how the chefs (who I can only assume after eating there are line cooks) tend to cook their food. Neither did she know how to open a wine bottle! I swear we watched her for nearly 5 minutes battle with a standard (and overpriced) bottle of Chard.
What's my summary on the BluWater Bistro? AVOID IT. It's a waste of money and time. There are so many good restaurants in Seattle -- find something else.

This new Ballard destination is an interesting addition to the old-Ballard area. With great restaurants like Volterra, Thaiku and Matador nearby, this a perfect place to stop on your way to or from those restaurants.
I've found that going beforehand is generally better. Although they don't open until 5, it usually starts getting quite busy after 7 or 8 (depending on the night) and can be a little loud or unpleasant later if you're with someone you really want to talk to.
The drinks are wonderful - they have a great selection of wines, beer and mixed drinks and the food is appetizing, if not pricy. The cheese plate is great - but any more than a few glasses of wine and appetizers and you'll quickly be looking at a $100+ check for 4.
Still - I'd return though as a pre-cursor to later evening activities.

It's even great to just go for drinks at the bar. Try it out if you haven't been there. Good stuff for a nice night out.

No pressure, friendly, neighborhood place.
