I just went to Buffalo Exchange down at Chestnut and 17th streets in Center City to look for a few pairs of dress pants for work. Granted, they didn't have much in the way of interesting dress pants, but I found some FABULOUS skirts from Pixies (brand new and sooo comfy) and some great long sleeve tees. All in all, I brought home two shirts (stars and polka dots), three skirts (one black and white, one brown and white and orange, and one greens and blues) AND and extra skirt for a Rikku Costume I'm working on... and the grand total? $54. AWESOME. Plus, they took some of the clothes that I brought to trade, and that made my shopping EVEN BETTER!
I love Buffalo Exchange, I just wish they had a few more 'classic' pieces instead of just super trendy/hipster stuff :)
ooooh, it'd be nice if they had a line of really cheap (like $5) tees that were just super simple. They could do that, right?

Despite the wonderful local thrift shops around the 'burg, Goodwill has proven to be the best place for women's clothing (that I've found). They've got a small selection of other items, but for clothing, they have great brands, good quality, and everything's always washed and clean... no stains or holes. They only put out the best.
(this also makes for fun dumpster diving if you're into that too)

Not only does Mercy House Thrift provide great second-hand items, they also support Geminschaft House, a home for newly released prisoners preparing to give life another shot. They do this by providing vouchers (from what I understand) for household items, clothing for their new jobs, and so much more.
On top of this, Mercy House has a GREAT record selection. Granted, you have to search around a bit... but it's worth the effort.

Family run and privately owned store right in the downtown walking area with a strong hippie influence. From Tibetian style lanterns to sarongs from Indonesia and sterling jewelry from around the world, A touch of earth is a great place to pick up a gift, or just a few beads to add to that necklace you've been working on.

Right on Route 33 (E. Market) before you hit the hotel district, is a little... not-so-impressive restaurant called L'italia. But walk through the doors and find yourself in a lovely and classy establishment. In the space of a year... they've added a whole lot of class without loosing the fantastic food and managed to keep the prices relatively low.
Best tomato, basil and mozzerella salad in town.
Great "smoking room" 30's or 40's style lounge where you can have a drink before being seated.

As far as thrift shops go, Gift and Thrift is worth a visit. I've only found a few clothing items that I'd actually wear, but they have overstock Ben Sherman for men and women... usually there's some small imperfection... but hey, a $130 shirt for 4 bucks? what do you expect?
I have to say though, they have a great little silent auction and a pretty good selection of books... not to mention cheap candle stubs and good furniture once in a while.

A few years ago, my Grandmother bought tickets to the flower show for herself, me and my mother... for mother's day. It was a fantastic excursion into a fantasy garden. Each step was garnished with wonder... Each small individual garden gave a glimpse of another contient.
The downside... the business and crowd... The upside... The miniature rooms in a judged exhibit. tiny little gardens cultivated in tiny little lit boxes, and hand crafted miniature furniture and lamps.

If you like thrift shops... don't get your hopes up. Green Street Consignment is on the pricier side of the bridge. You know... a pair of se7en jeans for 30 bucks... but hey! if you're in the market for 'em that's not a bad price to pay! I found a fantastic leather armband-wrap-bracelet dickies watch there a few months ago for $20 and I wear it all the time. So if you don't mind paying a bit more for good quality items, check it out.
(oh, and if you're looking into consigning... just remember, they only take really NICE stuff... take your worn out clothes over to goodwill.)

The home offices of this grand four-floor shop located on 19th and Walnut are just up the street past Barnes and Noble Booksellers. I know because I've visited several times. My dream job (one of many) is to work as a buyer for this company, traveling the world and finding unique little items in tucked away marketplaces from the far east, to my own neighborhood. From bedding to clothing (just women's... sorry guys) to kitchen kitch to handblown glass knobs for your favorite childhood dresser... they have it. Just watch your pocketbook.... it's too pricey for my budget! I just go to look!

Looking for a Doctor who will care for your health... emotionally, mentally and spiritually as well as physically? Look no further. Dr. Joseph W. Price M.D. is a one-of-a-kind health practice located in Mount Airy, between Germantown and Chestnut Hill. The office is right in a big old home and is incredibly welcoming. There are lots of books and toys for the kids and interesting antique medical furniture and appliances for the grownups to oogle.
Most patients are personal friends, or soon-to-become friends of the Doctor which makes for a very family-like atmosphere whenever you visit.
