After watching documentaries on Walmart, it is difficult for me to enter the store without feeling guilty over how their employees are treated. I have to admit the prices are low, especially on their gardening supplies. We have purchased hundreds of dollars worth of dirt and gardening materials in the past and have since started purchasing from Lowes. If you are not aware of the issues surrounding Walmart, you may want to consider watching the frontline special, or one of the documentaries. I believe it is the called "The High Cost of Low Prices."

This buffet is busy on most days. Due to the recent openings of nearby Chinese places, business at this restaurant has slowed in the last couple of years. The food here is very good, but pricey. It is popular with Chinese families as well as people of other ethinicities. The restaurant offers a wide selection of well prepared Chinese food, and also offers sushi. Be careful of eating raw fish that may be sitting out too long. A family friend became ill once soon after eating there, most likely it was the sushi.

For some reason, I find Safeway's prices high when compared with other grocers in the area. Even with their specials, I can usually find a better deal elsewhere. The quality of produce is usually better at Giant foods or Costco. For this reason, I rarely shop there unless there is an emergency item, as this is the closest store to our house.

Food Lion's best deals tend to be offered in deals for buy one get one free. Like Safeway, their specials do not run weekly starting on Sundays, but run Wednesdays to Tuesdays. Their produce looks fresh, but the lines at the store can be long. They never seem to have enough checkout staff regardless of the time of day. I guess for low prices, it is worth the wait.

By entering the transaction and other details that are listed on the receipt, the system will automatically validate the rebate for you. The easyrebates system also sends you an email when the check is ready to be mails. Staples will sometimes offer generic coupons with reusable coupon codes, but generally the store issues one time use coupons with unique codes. It's still a great store to shop at.

Office Depot's deals usually come in the form of rebates. Since a large portion of buyers do not redeem these rebates, the company is able to generate the sale without sacrificing much. Also, the funds that the company receives can be used or "borrowed" by the company for a couple of months until the rebate check is fulfilled. My main problem with Office Depot is the service. Two of my most recent web orders went unfulfilled. Employees did not pull the items off the shelf and reserve the items for me until pick up. This could be a system error, but either way, it is irritating to arrive at the store only to leave empty handed.

They do honor this as I have received a price match for a memory stick that was offered at a lower price at Staples. Coincidentally, both Staples and Circuit City are located in the same shopping center. Circuit City also offers a $24 in 24 minute policy. If you place an order online to be picked up, the product will be available in 24 minutes or you will receive a $24 gift card.

Arena Stage produces some of the best plays in the Washington, DC Area. There are two theatres at Arena Stage, both fairly small so all the tickets are good seats. I watched my first Eugene O'Neill play at this theatre. Lately though, I have not enjoyed the shows quite as much. It is conveniently located by the Waterfront--SEU metro station on the green line, and often half price tickets are available through ticketplace. The best and most established shows appear at the Kennedy Center and include concerts, plays, dances, and operas. In an effort to spread the arts to a wider audience, every day the Kennedy Center hosts the Millenium stage, which offers free events at the Center. Tickets can be purchased sometimes for half-price the day of the show through the cultural-alliance.org website. There are also specially priced tickets for students, groups, and designated residents. There is a shuttle from the Metro that takes patrons to the center or parking is available at the center.
