Bagel Nosh is a perfect for those mornings you don't feel like making breakfast but also don't feel like spending money on anything fancy. Service is cafeteria style in that you place the order yourself, pay the cashier and seat yourself, all while carrying your food on a plastic tray. The place also has more than bagels -- omelettes, pancakes, fruit and the usual breakfast items are available. Coffee is pretty good.

If you're craving deli food, particularly matzo ball soup, this is a good place to go. The menu is pretty standard: giant sandwiches, salads, soups, omelettes. The food is hearty more so than healthy (about what you'd expect from a deli) and a bit overpriced. On the whole, everything's about a buck or two more than it should be. The place is next door to a Coldstone Creamery, so parking can be scarce, especially during the summer months.

Fans of salads, burgers, pasta and sandwiches will enjoy EWF and its casual, laid back atmosphere. Any place that has sawdust on the floor as part of its decor has to be somewhat fun, right? Prices are reasonable ($10 and up for dinner entrees), there's a full bar, service is good. Take out is available, but the food has been cold the past couple of times I've tried this. I've never had this problem while dining in, however.

I needed to have a vintage Jaguar checked out for potential purchase and someone suggested having the vehicle inspected by Nicol Motors. When I arrived with the car, however, I was told that the shop didn't do this type of work. And then I was asked to vacate the premises and never return again. Odd. Whatever the "problem" was must have been superficial, because I was in the shop for all of five minutes and was in no way disruptive. (I did, however, forget to wear my Jil Sander suit). I ended up driving a mile west to Hornburg Jaguar and had the vehicle inspected with no problems whatsoever.

Fresh in the Box sounds like a place that sells deli sandwiches, but it's actually Japanese "fast food" -- sushi, teriyaki bowls, brown rice, vegetables, etc. Ideal for lunch, and for those times you crave Japanese food but don't feel like a costly, sit-down meal. The portions aren't huge here, but the prices are reasonable. Sushi is on par with the sushi you'd find at, say, Whole Foods, but the menu is more diverse here. Take out or eat in. Decent sized, clean dining area.

The Blue House manages to fit a lot of antiques into a compact space, and most everything here is good quality (but overpriced). The focus here is less on furniture and more on accessories so if you're looking for an antique mailbox or windchime, for example, this is a good place to go. This shop, like most on Montana Ave, is geared towards patrons with considerable disposable income. One gets the impression it's where the rich go to buy gifts for their affluent friends.

Located on trendy Montana Avenue is this large store packed with high end gift items, furniture and furnishings. Everything in here is good quality, but not necessarily practical, and the store overall has a very feminine feel to it (lots of candles, scented sachets, and pillows, for example). Prices are, not surprisingly, above average. Can't comment on the service because I've never had anyone approach me, offering assistance!

It's surprisingly difficult, finding decent Chinese takeout in this part of Los Angeles, so Canton Kitchen is a refreshing change of pace. The food isn't "Americanized" like Panda Express and it isn't "California-ized" like P.F. Chang's (nothing against either of those places). Instead, everything on the menu here is prepared authentic Cantonese style, so be prepared if your kung pao chicken is a bit different. Average entree is around $8. Take out only, no dining area.

Bel Air Camera stocks a large array of photographic supplies and equipment, so if you're looking for something -- chances are, it's here. The prices are pretty much full retail so you can probably find better prices online. If you need something quickly, though, this is a good place to start looking. Sales staff are knowledgable, but initiative isn't exactly their strong suit -- i.e., don't be surprised if you have to drag information out of them.

Fred Deni's is a bit of a rarity: a stylish restaurant that serves fantastic brunch, but doesn't have crowds of people waiting on the sidewalk. That's not to say that Back on Broadway isn't good. It's excellent. The large dining area is bright and airy, and punctuated with gorgeous flower arrangements. The overall feel of the place is casual and relaxed. As for the food: the pancakes are excellent, as are the pastries and omelettes. Friendly, prompt service.
