If you're lucky and your food is prepared correctly, and you don't speak up if something's wrong, you might have a decent time at this restaurant. I was not so lucky. My steak was overcooked and when I dared to send it back, the server yanked the plate away and stalked off. The second steak that came out was cooked properly, but the cut of meat was so horrible (i've had better at Sizzler), i can only assume it was payback for having sent back the first entree. In addition, the bartender mixed one of my drinks wrong so i had to send that back as well. My family's entrees were overpriced and average-tasting at best.
Parking is also a huge pain (they only validate for 1 hour).
If you have to eat at the Grove, there are many, many other options from which to choose. Avoid this place, as the old saying goes, like the plague.

Mexico City serves good, authentic Mexican food (try the spinach enchiladas) in a lively, festive atmosphere. The dining area is large and can get loud, but that adds to the fun. The trendy crowd can include the occasional indie rock star on any given day, but even so, the place is a bit overrated. If you're in the Los Feliz/Silverlake area, stop on by -- but it may not be worth, say, a 45 minute drive.

For a restaurant that's located in a strip mall next to a mattress store, Uncle Darrow's serves up surprisingly tasty Cajun food -- in particular the gumbo and etouffe. Prices are on the expensive side ($12+ for an entree), especially if you consider the dining area. The place has the look and feel of a takeout place, but at full service restaurant prices. Service is friendly.

Wilshire West is a large car wash located in a busy section of Santa Monica. As a result, the line can get fairly long (6, 7 cars deep) -- especially on weekend mornings and even mid-day during the week. Prices are average but if you purchase a package, you can save some money. Machine wash is the "default" but hand wash is available, too. The staff is thorough and generally does an excellent job. That said, if there's damage to a vehicle after a wash, management will not assume responsibility for it. They might offer you coupons towards future services, but that's it.

Maria's is a small, hole in the wall restaurant that serves great pizza, pasta and salads at reasonable prices. The place gets tremendously busy at lunch time and again when school lets out, so be prepared to wait. There's limited seating but a majority of the business is take out. The biggest drawback is parking, as the restaurant is located in a court that has limited meters. For those who like the food here but not necessarily the atmosphere, try the Maria's by Westside Pavilion. It's a much larger, nicer restaurant.

Reddi Chick is a bit of an anomaly. Located in Brentwood, home of five star, gourmet restaurants, this little take-out stand serves greasy fries and rotisserie/BBQ chicken to throngs of adoring masses. The food tastes great, no doubt about it, but the grease stains will penetrate your takeout bag by the time you reach your table (seating is outdoors, picnic style, in the open air Brentwood Country Mart). Kids and adults alike enjoy this guilty pleasure.

A Votre Sante serves healthy, tasty vegetarian dishes and is popular among the always health-conscious Brentwood crowd. The wraps in particular are excellent, as is the vegetarian chili. While this place is much revered by vegetarians, those who aren't might find the food a little bland. Portions are large, prices are reasonable considering the ingredients are organic, and service is friendly. Take out is available.

Planet Americana is a stylish, boutique shop on trendy Main Street in Santa Monica (just north of the Omelette Parlor -- good place to browse while waiting for a table). The store carries both men's and women's clothing and accessories (new and vintage t-shirts, jeans, handbags, etc) and has the distinction of carrying an extensive selection of Blue Marlin clothing. Great place to shop if you're into throwback baseball caps, hoodies, henleys.

Amazingly, this is one of the only bars in Westwood (Maloney’s being the other) and it's -- surprise, surprise -- frequented by a crowd that's mostly UCLA students. Having said that, it's not filled with raucous, drunken frat boy types. The bar has a relaxed vibe to it, the window views are pleasant, and there are many beers on tap. Obligatory disclaimer: beer connoisseurs may be disappointed by the product here, but overall it's a good place to just kick back and relax.
