1789 is the best restaurant in the District… and it’s priced accordingly. If you’ve got a couple hundred dollars to burn, treat yourself and a friend to an incredible meal. I highly recommend the Rack of American Lamb for an entrée, though you really can’t go wrong with any menu item. For dessert, though, definitely try out the vanilla and chocolate bread pudding. I’m not necessarily a big fan of bread pudding, in general, but this version was different and incredible.
If you want to try this place out, but don’t quite have the cash, keep in mind that they offer a pre-theater prix-fixe menu available weekdays before 6:45pm and an after-hours menu available Sunday through Thursday after 9pm, and Friday and Saturday nights after 10pm. Both these menus are $35.

I’m not sure that there even is another hardware store in the neighborhood, but I’d be happy to have this one as the only one. Located on 18th Street, between M & N Streets, Candey’s is accessible to residents of Foggy Bottom, Dupont, Georgetown, and other areas. The staff is very friendly and, even though the store is on the small side, they seem to make room for a really good selection. Plus, it helps that it never seems to be too crowded.

The Love Café is located directly across the street from one of their bakery locations, ensuring that the pastries are freshly baked. On top of that, they are orgasmically delicious. The chocolate-covered strawberries are the best I’ve ever tasted. You know how usually the chocolate chips off and crumbles all over you as soon as you take a bite? This does not happen here. The chocolate, while stiff enough to properly coat the strawberry, is soft enough to bite into without the hassle of breakage, making every bite filled with just the right amount of both chocolate and strawberry. If that isn’t enough to entice you, their cakes, cupcakes, tarts and everything else are just as exquisite. But all this temptation does not come without its price; the desserts tend to be a bit on the pricey side. But for special occasions (like hmm, Valentine’s Day) or just for when you need a chocolatey pick-me-up, the Love Café can certainly offer you an array of indulgences.

For Saturday and Sunday brunches/lunches, as well as most other popular meal times, be prepared to wait up to an hour to be seated. (Try off-peak hours for shorter waits or consider sitting at the bar, which has the benefits of getting to know the charming bartenders.) The great food and service makes it all well worth any possible wait.
