The Smithsonian Jazz Cafe is a fun and interesting place to hit up. Located in the National Museum of Natural History, it's a good stop for both locals and visitors, though I think it makes for an odd match. The venue has great acoustics for the music, but, despite the seating setup, it's not primed for chatting with your friends. They offer a decent selection of alcoholic beverages with various wines, beers, and some kind of weak mixed drinks. The food is good, too, if not a tad expensive for cafeteria-style dining. Overall, a great place, especially as an alternative to a regular happy hour.

I brought my boyfriend to Notti Bianche for his birthday. I'd never been there before and I don't plan on going back again. The food was fine, but the rest of our experience was terrible. We were never given bread. We were told some menu items weren't available when afterwards, the table next to us were able to order those items just fine. Our food actually arrived after the food of surrounding tables with patrons who came in after us. We didn't even bother ordering dessert since it was taking so long to get the waiter's attention again. Happening upon my recount of this experience in my blog, the manager extended an invitation to make up for things, which I was unable to accept. He then responded, wishing me luck on finals. I guess he assumed I was a student because of how badly I was treated there and their proximity to GW? My boyfriend and I do look pretty young, but we're not students and even if we were, I don't think that's a good excuse for sub-par treatment. I was impressed though with the manager's dedication to his restaurant and his invitation. I'll give it an ok instead of a poor for the manager's effort and because the food was good despite it all.

Capitol Grounds is another good lunch stop with some slightly healthier food than some of the nearby burger joints. The staff is really nice and friendly too. They have some outdoor seating, but indoor seating is limited to bar-like seats along the windows. Along with the good food, they have great coffee drinks, too.

Penn' Grille & Cafe is one of the most popular lunch spots in the area. The food is great. The service is fast. It's a staple for professionals in the Foggy Bottom and midtown areas. It’s so popular, in fact, that it can be tough to find a seat sometimes, but the turnover is quick and there are plenty of places outside nearby to pop a squat.

Lindy's Red Lion is a great stop for lunch and equally as good for a night of drinks. They have two levels of indoor seating and a backyard of outdoor seating. If you don't feel like sticking around and just want to pick up one of their excellent burgers, the downstairs provides efficient take-out service. For lunch, the downstairs is perfect with a couple of tables in front for a quick bite.

Sequoia's is the ritziest of the Georgetown Waterfront establishments. As though the prices weren't indication enough, even the outdoor area is raised just above the rest of the boardwalk. The food is mouthwatering. The venue is beautiful. They even host special events like rehearsal dinners and wedding receptions. It may not be the most popular of Washington Harbour hangouts for just chilling on a nice summer day, but it is the place to be for a great dining experience.

On those popular Waterfront summer nights, Tony & Joe's seems to be the place to be. I honestly don't know why, but for some reason the young DC professionals flock to this outdoor bar more than the other available options. It makes it a pretty tight squeeze within the roped off limits, which I think negates the purpose of being outside.
As for the dining experience, they offer great seafood, but it's a bit pricey. The service is just okay.
All in all, I'd say it's a fine place, but pretty overrated.

Nick's Riverside Grille is my pick for the Georgetown Waterfront. The staff is great, always courteous and attentive. The menu is pretty standard American cuisine and more reasonably priced than its Washington Harbour competition. Being on the Waterfront, Riverside is part of the prime summer hot spot for the District's young professionals. From behind the ropes, enjoy views of the Potomac and of course the people passing on the 'boardwalk.'

Though High Noon is still tops in my book, Noodles & Company could give them a run, as far as pasta goes. Lucky for High Noon, Noodles is located in Virginia at Pentagon Row. A great location, this place is situated in the center of Pentagon Row, right by Bally's, Maggie Moo's and a number of other eateries. The food is great and offered in entree sizes and smaller sizes. You can also opt to add chicken, beef or shrimp to most dishes. There's plenty of seating, including an outdoor area, and they'll bring your food out to your table after you order at the counter and take your number. The staff is also very nice.

Mendocino Grill is another great DC date place, for a slightly fancier night . In the midst of Georgetown, it's a great location. At the same time, the dining area is tucked away from the bustle of M Street allowing for that romanticly private ambiance. The staff is very helpful and the food is delicious. The wine bar, also, offers a great place to hang out with a couple friends.
