The Aero is one of the few remaining gems of a time when moviehouses were spectacular. These days it's still a wonderful place to see the latest and greatest in independent film, as well as the occasional revival. Located in Santa Monica on picturesque Montana, it's a great place to spend the evening.

This little spot lives up to its name. With a fair selection for such a small space, they've got what a Do It Yourselfer needs to get started. More importantly, they've got the patience to show you how! I watched as the manager guided one beginner through all the steps she would take and what she'd need to get started beading necklaces. Wonderful!

This place is an absolute find! Tucked away behind a run down facade there is one of the best dim sum restaurants I have been to! The carts are full of fried, baked, and steamed bounty in this large (and wonderfully dated, so very 70's) restaurant where families and couples gather to enjoy meals on the weekend. Dim Sum is until three, and there is free valet parking!

When we were in Little Tokyo the other day we noticed a sign for this spot advertising an $8 sushi buffet. Although the sushi offered was California Rolls and Cucumber Rolls, they more than made up for it with yummy Tempura, Teriyaki, Chow Mein, Rice and more! There was even flan (egg custard) for dessert. Great price, and a fun place.

This Curry house is one of my old favorites. You can always count on fast service, good food, and great prices. The chicken with veggies is my favorite, extra spicy! The menu includes other items, but to me the curry is the highlight of this spot. It stands out from others in the area due to its excellent and quick service.

This Starbucks is on the corner where the Los Feliz Village begins. It's across the street from a car wash, which makes it a good spot to hang until your ride is ready. However, it's hard to justify supporting the chain when less than a block up the street is Psychobabble, a coffee house with personality and charm. I suggest the latter.

This bookstore used to have its home on the Third Street Promenade, but these days has a new home. It has always been the place to go for unusual or rare books, with a staff that knows everything about everything when it comes to their wares. I always enjoyed perusing their aisles, they're a breath of fresh air compared to chain stores.

This bookstore, upon entry, can be intimidating. With several floors of books and music, it's hard to know where to start. Then again, the secret seems to be going when you DON'T have something particular to buy. The coffeeshop and magazine racks in the lobby invite patrons to sit and read a while, and the people watching outside to the Third Street Promenade is entertaining.
