Los Dos Molinos was my favorite restaurant in Phoenix, Arizonia- and the owner decided to try his luck in opening a NYC version much to my delight. They serve excellent SPICY Mexican food with authentic flair. The salsa here is absolutely fabulous- and the recipes are imported from Mexico and haven't been watered down like other area Mexican restaurants. The prices here are good- under $20 an entree and treats like fried ice cream and the best margaritas make this one of the best restaurants to be transported across the country.

Yes, NYC does have a Filene's Basement- but truth be told it is like nothing compared to the original in Boston. Century 21 is comparable to what the Boston Filene's basement is- great designer discounts by the bundle. On my last occassion to visit- I scooped up a plethora of Prada items like t-shirts and skirts for under $40 a piece! It was so exciting. On other visits I have found bargains from designers like Chloe and Lulu Guinness. This store has a range of qualities and prices- perfect for any fashionista!

The studio tour of NBC is fun and educational. You can see the sets where many of the daytime talk shows are taped. You can also see some of the history of the network here- from historic artifacts to interesting stories. The studio tour is cheap enough- about $10/person. My favorite thing about here though is the chance you can have to see a taping- I sent away for tickets to Conan O'brien's late night show and went with a couple of my friends to see this for free. It was definitely a fun experience- and stand by tickets for current tapings are available the days of most shows. Fun!

The Ridgefield Thrift Shop has always been one of the best area thrift stores. They have a wide selection of clothing for women, men and children as well as some hand-me-down housewares and toys for kids. Here they always have the best selection- perhaps because of the surrounding upscale neighborhood. One time I was lucky enough to find a Louis Vuitton pochet for $1 which I in turn sold on ebay for over $200. I haven't been that lucky recently, but this store is still chock full of great finds.

My grandparents have been going to Genoa Deli for Italian delicacies and cold cuts for years- and the quality is superb! Here they feature great imports from the boot country like Panantone bread, biscotti, pastas, sauces, herbs, etc.. The store is just full of Italian life- from the products to the owners. My grandfather was from Italy and always loved this store to provide the comforts of his old country. The deli selections here are also very good and they always slice your item as you like it. The owner here is also very friendly and personable- they have interacted with my grandparents for years and treat them like family.

Since Hello Kitty! Beard Papa's was extremely popular when I was overseas and I had yet to find one in the US until NYC and now Boston! They seriously make the best cream puff's in the world! The crust is super flaky and delicate and they wait until the last second when you order to inject the cream filling- meaning it won't be soggy when you eat it. Delicious flavors of the filling include strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. These are absolutely heaven! And so cheap too for such quality!

Jekyl and Hyde is like a haunted TGI Friday's. This restaurant is pretty good on the theme- not so good on the food or service. I thouroughly enjoyed the entertainment from the sinking ceiling in the entrance to the haunted dining room. The live performance was good as well with monsters and ghouls interacting with the audience. The dark dining room and several creepily inspired menu items are fun. However, the majority of the food is quite uninspired- think spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer and meals like burgers and fries. The entrees are way over-priced- I guess you're paying for ambiance. The food also tastes like it has been frozen and was just microwaved and bought to your table. The club on the 3rd floor of the midtown location is fun. All in all, not a bad place to go for good cheesy fun, but not a great place to eat.

For Clarkson sweatshirts, mugs, postcards, t-shirts, hockey stuff and other souvenirs head over to the University Book Store on Market St. Here they stock all the latest Clarkson attire, as well as new best sellers. In the basement, students can find most of the books they need for their classes separated by class and level. It's very convienient- though most of the books are only available in their new edition so could be quite pricey. There are other book re-sellers in town where you should bring your books back to at the end of the semester- this store tends to lowball when it comes to buying things back.

Open only for breakfast, the Hop serves up comfort food to the locals of Potsdam. All the dishes here are either deep-fried or heavy on the grease. I ordered the pancakes on my one occassion eating here- I could only eat half of one they were so filing. I guess that is what they mean by "stick to your ribs country cooking". The staff/owner here is very friendly and the place is dated but charming nonetheless.

Potsdam lack a Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or any mass retailer that sells good coffee drinks. However they do have the Fields coffee house which is not half bad. You can get many things like a chai latte or cappuccino here- just if you're trying to invent your own drink that's not on the menu be patient with the counter help. They don't seem to know what anything is if it's not on their board. Also very good here are their wrap sandwiches, salads, and smoothies. It's one of the only places in Potsdam you can go for such things.
