An amazing clinic where you can be seen if you are sick, with or without
insurance...with or without money. My daughter was at this job one time and
her ninety days hadn't kicked in yet so she had no insurance. Still she hadn't
been on it long enough to have the ample funds to go to the hospital. She
went there because she was in pain and was quickly diagnosed with
gall stones...they set her up with a medicaid plan until her insurance came
through because she was in an emergency situation.

I was astounded the read the number of homeless people that there are, alone, in our state. The numbers are heart wrenching. It was so cold this past
winter and I wonder, what do these people do. Well, thanx to the Salvation
Army atleast these people will have a warm place to lay their heads at night.
Everyday I am thankful but for the grace of God, there goes I. We really never
know folks.

They have a big church and community center. I found out that most of the
members of this affliation also work for the Salvation Army although when I
was a Manager, I was in the minority. The community center hosts events
to bring in donations for the needy. They also hold events for the poor especially during the holiday seasons.

For years this is what the Salvation Army was all about. The money that is
brought in from the Salvation Army Thrift Stores is put back into the system to
help out the poor, the needy and the downtrodden. So when you donate your
unwanted goods, you are also helping greatly to this service. There are positive ways everyone can help. If you have something you can't use...donate. You know that purple top you got for christmas that still has
the tags on it...donate it. It will help your heart smile!

I actually went down here with my girlfriend and now feel I must have been nuts because this area of Detroit is not very safe. I was shocked to hear that
people from the suburbs will come down to this rehabilitation center when all
the others are full just to have a place to go and start their treatment. Now
this writer also worked in a drug rehabilitation center and the truth is that
the statistics are very poor that a recovering alcoholic or addict will stay
clean. It hurts to hear that, I seen it happen working among them for years.

The Salvation Army's answer to helping the addictive turn his life around and
become capable of returning to the working world. They help those who don't
have insurance or have very little. These shelters are always full because there are so many waiting in line to get help. What happens is that they
become discouraged when help isn't readily available and than they use that
as an excuse to fall off the wagon again.

This is where meetings are held and conferences more in accordance with
the Salvation Army Church which is also in this area. I went to one of their
meetings when one of our peers at the store passed away and I was shocked
at the number of people that attend their services. I had no idea that it was
that widespread. The salvation army has a lot of history behind it and has
been around for years.

The Salvation Army on Gratiot has moved about 3 times in the past ten years.
It's all right because I still find it whenever I am down in that area but it sure
would make sense to stay in one building so your customers know where everything is at when they come in. Regardless, I never leave empty handed
when I tour the Army on Gratiot. It's in a heavily residential area so they get
a lot of good donations.

Of course, I had to check this one out in my old neighborhood. There used
to be a big woolworths in this building when I was a kid. And I couldn't wait
til I was old enough that Mom would let me cross Harper by myself to go
there. Those were the days. I lived off Downing and if you want to walk to
the army...its a good idea to walk down fresard where the light is. I really
didn't like this army that much and I don't know why. Probably because I
didn't find any good deals at the time. But that could change if I was there
precisely at the appropriate moment.

now. When I was there last I just had to see the Salvation Army in that area.
Even though I am no longer an employee of them, I still like to see how the
managers set up their stores. I called this the scattered look (LOL)- everything was scattered around everywhere (LOL) but to me, I still enjoy
searching for surprizes in thrift shops. So who really cares what it looks like,
If it is fun?
