Crepe Du Jour is a tiny crepe shop in the heart of Baltimore's Mt. Washington. It's a great place to gossip with a friend over a plate of nutella-smothered goodness and coffee. Prices aren't too bad, considering the fun atmosphere and amazing crepe selection. It doesn't have a ton of seating though, so on busy days, the crowds can become a bit overwhelming.

Although many reviews have roasted the Dixie Stampede, my experience was quite different. Is it expensive? Yes. However, with any dinner show, you're getting dinner and entertainment. Now, I'll fully admit to be a horse hater and I'm not the biggest fan of Civil War era stuff, but I had a really good time here. The food is far from gourmet, but it's a downright entertaining evening out with a large group. Yes, there tends to be a waft of horse every now and again, but if you don't like country music and horses and show up to place called the Dixie Stampede.. well, maybe you could use a dose of common sense.
I'd put this up there with other shows like Arabian Nights and Medieval Times- expensive, but good for a family-friendly night out.

It's no surprise that when Disney created Typhoon Lagoon, they knew what they were doing. This tropically-themed water park has everything from a huge wave pool and sandy beach to a tropical reef where you can snorkel with the fish. Admission isn't cheap, but it's a full day of entertainment. My suggestion is- bring as little as you can. Leave important stuff at the hotel safe, including jewelry and stuff. The waves will suck your valuables away faster than you can say "undertow." Also, get there early if you want a chair. This place packs them in, so be warned that you'll be waiting awhile to swoosh down the slides.

If you blink, you'll probably miss Miss Kitty's Buttonhole. This little (as in you can barely turn around in here) shop specializes in hats of all shapes and sizes and handwoven bags. Prices aren't amazing but are fairly reasonably considering the quality of the merchandise. The shop owner is extremely friendly and is a good resource for asking about what else to do in town.

I remember visiting Georgetown Inn when I was really, really little. The fare is fantastic, and the view of Pittsburgh is only matched by its big competitor on Mt. Washington, the Lemont restaurant. I suggest making reservations (a must!) and taking the incline to the restaurant. Parking is cheaper and the view from the incline makes the experience that much more enjoyable!

A trip to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine was a part of my family's Thanksgiving travels for years. The shrine, which is a giant dome meant to look like part of a globe, has undergone many renovations throughout the years. There is an attached cafeteria open to tourists and guests and an extensive gift shop with everything from books and videos to semi-precious gemstone rosaries. Outside during the Festival of Lights, you'll find some great displays. The grounds are extensive, and on a nice day, you can easily spend an hour walking around outside.

I never knew the name of this store for the longest time. From a very young age, I remember shopping here with my parents, and it seemed that everyone knew them. The staff is really friendly, and you can tell the store is part of the community. Whether it was birdseed or topsoil, you'd see employees lugging sacks out to people's cars and making small talk. Show me that happening at Home Depot. You'll probably find cheaper prices somewhere else, but if you're looking to hang out with gardeners or catch up on the latest gossip, stop by Johnson Farm & Home Service.

Ford's Theater is a must-see for all Washington-bound tourists. Although it definitely has a morbid edge to it, you can actually walk through the still-active theater to the booth where Lincoln was shot. After wandering around upstairs, be sure to check out the interpretative center in the basement. As a historian, I rate is as highly educational and just really, really interesting. It's a combo of artifacts and narrative explaining the whole assassination story.

Though you can find cheaper gas and more convenient locations, it's really hard to beat the "all in one" combo that the Tonidale Exxon offers. They're relatively new and feature an extensive convenience store where you can get a cup of gourmet coffee. One major drawback of this gas station is that it's located at a crossroads, making it really difficult to turn left when leaving the parking lot. Keep that in consideration when deciding where to fuel up.
