Rapides Regional Medical Center: Emergency Department 5/14/2006

If you are in Alexandria and you need quick medical care, I suggest that you do not go to Rapides Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. You will sit there for the better part of 6 hours at a minimum. Friday afternoon about 5:00 p.m. I got a call from my 8 year granddaughter that her mom (my daughter) had fallen in the yard, was hurting and couldn't get up. She lives around the corner from us. I took her to the Emergency Room at Rapides Regional Medical Center. We arrived there at 5:22 p.m. and she got signed in while I parked the car and then was told to sit in the waiting room. At 7:35 p.m. the Triage nurse called her name. Luckily he could tell that she was going to need an xray so he wrote the order for one and told us to return to the waiting room until xray called for her. By 8:10 p.m. her name was called and I wheeled her to xray. At 10:05 p.m. the Triage nurse came over asked if she had gotten xrayed. She said yes. Then he took us to Minor Care where we sat in another waiting room for 45 minutes. Finally, she was called and put in an exam room. Almost 11 o'clock now. It took another 40 minutes (there was a movie on the tv and we watched most of it) for a doctor to come in to look at her foot. This doctor was not wearing a name tag or identification. Nothing to show that she was indeed a doctor. The final outcome was a very bad ankle sprain with some possible tendon or ligament tears. We were finally on our way home by midnight. The worst part of this review is that my daughter works for this hospital as a purchasing agent for several departments. The nurses, clerks, etc. knew this because she had to give them her place of employment, occupation, and insurance information. I didn't expect them to move her in ahead of other patients but it seems like they would try to impress fellow employees with their quick response and good patient treatment. more
