Outstanding Cuban Experience
Friday, February 24, 2006
I recently went to Cafe LaGuardia with a relatively large party, we were 8 and we had a enjoyable experience. It was a Thursday night and they took reservations.
The atmosphere at Cafe LaGuardia is festive and attractive. The walls are full of beautiful colors and decor. I found the ropa vieja, which is perhaps one of the more popular Cuban dishes to be outstanding. I found the meat tender and flavorful. The addition of green peppers with the meat was fabulous. The rice and black beans complimented the dish perfectly, of course. I will certainly plan to return for the ropa vieja. In addition, the Brazilian red snapper was cooked perfectly and paired nicely with shrimp and rice. I also thought the plantains were delicious and not greasy, which is the way I prefer to eat them.
The waiter was very attentive and kind. However, my one complaint was the host. He was very disorganized and overwhelmed. He neglected to tell me I couldn't add my pre dinner drink onto the bill, which I would have liked to have known. Again, he appeared overwhelmed and stressed at moments and I'm not certain why.
I suggest trying any of their specials or the ropa vieja. You'll enjoy the Cuban experience.
