Saint Paul's large arena is called the Xcel Energy Center. This arena is hands down better than the neigboring Target Center or Metrodome in Minneapolis. Much newer, the Xcel is a nice venue. It features large screens in the arena, so no seat is really a bad seat. It has nicely decorated lobbies with a "up north lodgy" type of feel. The Xcel also has terrific concessions, including all the regular hot dogs, nachos, beer, but also fancier wrap sandwiches, icecream, turkey sandwiches, and pizza. I have also been in the suites at the Xcel, and they are by far nicer than their competitors as well. (For instance, they have bathrooms in suite). Parking at the Xcel can be a bit of a pain compared to the Target Center, but that's about the only negative. Check out their website at

Here in Minneapolis/St. Paul, I frequent one grocery store the most. Rainbow Foods. They have a good selection of everything you need, including a nice bakery and deli. Rainbow and Cub Foods are the two discount chains here, but Rainbow is usually less busy and cleaner. That is why I choose Rainbow. Most stores also have banks inside of them, and some even have Caribou Coffee stores. I also am able to rent carpet cleaners at Rainbow, which comes in handy.
The meat and seafood selection at Rainbow is also quite decent. Check out their website at www.rainbowfoods.com.

My fiancee took me to Cabella's for the first time this last weekend. Cabella's is a dream come true store for fishers, hunters, and sportsmen. For myself, being a theatre technician, I really wasn't excited. I did enjoy the large selection of homemade fudge they have. We picked up 2 lbs of the yummy stuff...including raspberry chocolate, maple nut, turtle, and cookies and cream. The store also offers a nice cafe, where we got some delicous soup. The store has all of the basics..hunting equipment, fishing equipment (including pontoons, fishing boats and kayaks!), sports coats, etc. It also has a stuffed wildlife gallary, to teach the younger kids how much an elephant weighs, etc. It also features an aquarium, with area fish. The one thing I did enjoy was the shooting gallery on the second floor, where I kept hitting targets that shot me in the face with water. That was mildly amusing :)
Many men will enjoy this store just as much as women enjoy IKEA. Many women will love it more than IKEA.
(I still like IKEA much more :) Call me the typical woman).

Key's Cafe is a local restaurant chain that serves down-home, old fashioned comfort food. Key's has a good menu that features burgers, sandwiches, salads, and great salads. They also have HUGE delicious monster cookies. You will not go hungry here. The portions are huge! The sandwiches and burgers are very large. One of my favorite meals is the veggie sandwich..served warm with melted cheese on veggies on bread. Complete with sunflower seeds!

Hillcrest Community Center is a nice neighborhood center in St. Paul's Highland Park area. The center offers a city library, walking track, workout gym, and sports gym with a walking track. They also have a theatre. I am currently working on a show there. Though it is not set up great as a theatre (for example, the changing room is down 2 flights), it is very nice and clean. They have a full time staff that is very friendly. The center offers several chidren's classes for dance and sports.

My doctor is Kara Hutton at the internal medicine dept. at Park Nicollet in St. Louis Park. She is a Physician's Asst., but is just as great as a dr.
I have been going to her for a few years now and like her. She is very nice and always takes the time to ask how I am doing, and remembers details about my life. She has also referred me to specialists as needed. Also, I go to her for my yearly physical. It's much easier to get an appt. sooner than going to a gynecologist.

Park Nicollet in St. Louis Park is my choice for a medical facility. I have gone to several doctors there. The facility is fantastic because it's all in one: doctors of every type, lab, pharmacy, urgent care, health store, and day surgery. I have been to the doctors, urgent care, and day surgery there. I have always received fantastic care. I like going to this type of "super store" of medical facility because I know that if I need further care, I can just travel down the hall as opposed to having to go across town.

Last summer,I had a very unpleasant experience at Hoover Wheel Alighment. I was in a bad car accident (not my fault) and had the unfortunate situation of fixing my car last summer. Why I didn't just go to the dealer right away, I don't know. I went to Hoover because it's right next to where I work. I had a mystery problem of squeking. Hoover felt I had a brake problem, and proceeded to fix that. They didn't fix the problem entirely, and I had to take the car back. They gladly took it back to try to fix it again, but I was never quite sure of their knowledge. They were not sure of what was wrong with the car, and it still squeked. When I went to get it the second time, the workers were drinking beer in the garage..at 4 pm! Any professional garage with workers drinking beer is a big thumbs down in my book. After my horrible experience at this garage, I took my car to the dealer, and they put my car on a computer. Within one hour, they knew exactly what was wrong with it (a strut "seat"), and they fixed it within the day. The car worked perfectly. I wish I could support the "little guys", but when the little guys drink beer and don't have proper knowledge, I go to the big box dealers.

Dick Blick is an excellent art supply store. I enjoy just browsing in this store; there are so many great items! They carry everything for painting, drawing, charcoal, sculpting, and much, much more. I needed a particular canvas a few months back, and they had a fantastic selection..and they happened to be on sale! Dick Blick has a good selection of pencils, pens, and a variety of different paints and paint products.
They have several locations in the Twin Cities.

I take my pet to Mounds View Animal Hospital when I need to board her. It is very close to my house and convenient. The facility is very nice and clean. It has modern facilities, and they are also a vet, so I know there is proper medical care if needed. The staff is super friendly. They remember my pet and are always happy to see her back. My pet seemed happy and actually refreshed when she came back from the Mounds View Animal Hospital.
Pros: Prices are reasonable; $25/day for dog.
Cons: Sunday pick up times are only 1 hour: 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
