MUCH better coffee than the airport, and plenty of interesting people swinging through or sitting and talking. This is not a coffeeshop to visit if you want to relax quietly with a book. Laptops dot about 60% of the tables...and yah, plenty of students studying (free wifi of course).
But in spite of the crowds, it's a great place for meeting up with friends or just sitting and reading the paper. I usually always find a seat by the time my drink is ready. Zoka's music selection is always great too (from Shins to Postal Service to Iron & Wine to Vanderslice...)
Their coffee quality/consistency is in the 8/10 range and beats most places around town with the exception of Lighthouse and Vivace (and maybe a couple others on capitol hill).
For the Greenlake area, this is definitely a better place to go than Peets or Starbucks.
They also have a exceptional selection of mugs, coffee, and accessories (grinders, etc.). And as mentioned, their loose-leaf tea selection is very nice.

I once called Mike to request a tuning and he was currently at the Meydenbaur center tuning a grand while a hip-hop group was soundchecking in the background. I couldn't hear anything he was saying...but he was in the middle of TUNING a piano BY EAR.
Anyway, this guy is quite good, and really nice. He has a friend who drives him around and helps out but he mostly does all the tuning, taking the piano apart, fixing parts, etc. by himself.
When we had him tune an old piano he came back for free to fix a string and re-tuned it at no charge!

We've done many concerts here and I always want to go back. I'd like to live there in fact. If you can afford a night out on the town... this is the place to go for dinner and a show.
Sight: THE most beautiful venue of it's size north of San Francisco. Decor, lighting, stage, booths...it's got it all.
Sound: Multi-million dollar sound system and hardly a dead spot in the whole room. Geared more towards mellow shows, so if you are there for a rockin' band you can expect a little less quality on the mix.
Taste: Menu is inspired by the widely acclaimed Wild Ginger upstairs. Same head chef, though the Triple Door has their own pastry chef (desserts are amazing). I would stay away from the Pad Thai unless you are trying to skimp. 7-flavor beef is very good, roti bread is a must, and the salmon...it's always impressed me, but then again i wasn't paying $25 for it. helpings are fairly small, so boost your meal with the $1 roti bread.
Touch: Leather booths are very nice. Opt for a booth in the middle if you can, so get there early to eat before the show.
Smell: Well...it doesn't smell bad, so they sort of get this one. Bathrooms are very fancy and always very clean.
*There's also the Musiquarium bar upstairs as you enter that often has good music and never has a cover.
*Triple Door main hall is ALL-AGES w/ full bar & food menu, the bar is 21+ but you can order food up there as well.
*Staff here varies, but has improved greatly over the years. If it's a busy show expect relatively slow service... but you probably won't care. Don't go here to get tipsy, go here for the classy experience.

I seriously felt like I had walked into the Soup...I mean Video Nazi's place when i first visited Scarecrow in the U-district.
The selection is amazing though...I could get lost here looking for great indie/under-appreciated films.
Standing in line to ask a question is a bit tiresome since you have to wait for people who are checking out as well... they do have a couple computers that aren't too easily seen at first but are in the main area and you can use them yourself.
Again... this is the place you go if you want to find something interesting by that director you really like who made that one film you really liked... they'll know what you are talking about.
Prices are about 3.75 for normal rentals and they have 4 day, 2 day and other rental lengths depending on how old the dvd is or whether it's a show or movie. Easy parking... on street or in their free lot.
Nice staff, just start out your relationship right and ask them about some cool indie film before you go ahead and rent a cheesy comedy from the new release section.

As the other reviews said... Vivace takes coffee seriously and thank goodness for that. One look at the foam art covering the walls shows how proud the barista's are.
Atmosphere is pretty good... a little loud, but plenty of space and that meeting room is great. Decent parking down the street usually and it's right near an amazing and newly renovated park.
This place is legendary. It should be on the tourist map, not the stupid '1st Starbucks ever" in pikes place. come on...

Watching the chefs make the food right IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE... is the best part about eating at Thai Tom's. I don't know any other place in Seattle where you can watch the chefs at work in a small (& cheap) atmosphere.
The great prices, great food, and fun atmosphere... almost "soup nazi" in style, simply add to the fun & excitement of watching these chefs at work. You can feel the heat of the gas stoves and I almost always think I'm going to get splattered with hot oil...but somehow never do.
Lines are long but it's worth the wait and they move folks in and out so fast that you'll probably get in pretty quickly compared to most restaurant lines.
The other review on here saying that each meal will feed two people is not accurate, but it's plenty for one average person (or maybe two small people with small appetites). come on, it's like 6 bucks...what can you expect.
The pad thai is quite good but try something new...

...This place is famous for their co-owners Lisa & Hayden who seem to be about the friendliest young ladies in Seattle. Nearly every time I'm in there I hear them caring for or encouraging some poor soul or local worker that had a bad date the night before.
This place is all about community, has a cozy/country farmhouse vibe with bright lighting and a little fireplace in the corner. Always plenty of room to sit and read unless it's open mic night.
It's also famous for DONATING TIPS to local non-profits like the Boys & Girls club...wow. As we all know, tips are what make working a coffeeshop worthwhile. So this is pretty unusual.
They have live music on friday's and some saturday's and also an open mic on Wednesday's.
Free parking is around back, that's the secret I figured out after parking at the drugstore for a while (never got a ticket). No wifi yet, but always a good conversation to be had. Also check out the great African art & bags/jewelry they sell... it all goes to support a good cause!
Great pastries and bagels here too. Brown & Co coffee is fair trade & organic. i guess that means it's HEALTHY!?

Fiore is somewhat legendary... almost up there with Vivace in fact. Barista's seem pretty nice, place is generally clean, and they have a big round table so you can actually have an excuse to meet someone new or talk with neighbors. I wish i still lived in ballard...

This is where I first experienced a REALLY GOOD AMERICANO. Seriously. I never *liked* coffee up till then, it was more out of necessity. The fact that this is the cheapest good coffee in Seattle (only 1.50 for a double and 1.75 with flavoring) definitely helped my impression of this cute Upper Fremont roaster.
Lighthouse is where you go if you want a really good cup of coffee. Bottom line.
I agree with the other reviews: barista's are nice and efficient, atmosphere is average...not cozy...super hot on summer days (or when the roaster is going), not suggested for meetings or dates, relatively clean.
Easy parking though, almost like a drive-thru, stop in and roll on with your day...
