The burger's themselves are not the greatest. I think the bun and the fixings were great--but the patty was only okay. But the fries...yum.

If you need to find a place to eat lunch at the Convention Center, this is a great place to go. You can purchase either savory or sweet crepes. I had the one with spinach, which was very good. They also have a locally made ice cream (I believe it's from West Seattle). Sadly, the day that I went, I didn't feel like ice cream. But, I definitely want to check the ice cream out again.
The place is just a store front--if you need a place to sit, you have to find a table inside the Convention Center. But the service is pretty efficient. And you can always walk and eat your crepe, just like the French do.

I bought some beautiful porcelain tile here for my house. The prices were great--only $2.99/foot. The only bad thing is that some of their tile is from Italy--and you cannot necessarily order it. Or, you could order it, but it may take a very long time for it to get to the store.
Therefore, if you see something you like, and they have it in stock, you should just buy it right then.
It can be a bit intimidating to walk in. Sometimes someone will greet you and assist you. Sometimes, you can wander around and no one will acknowledge you. But, if you ask for help, someone will certainly help you.
Upstairs there is stone, granite, slate, etc. If you need some tile, this is a good place to check out.

One of the things that this place is known for is their sesame bread. It's not like the "scallion pancake" that most people think of as part of Chinese food. It is thick and really like bread. We ate it in place of rice. But it is VERY filling. Not sure that I love the bread--but it's definitely not something you can typically get somewhere else.
Otherwise, the food is pretty good. Definitely should go with a group of people so you can order several things. The service was efficient and helpful. I want to go back and try more things.

Plymouth Cafe is run by Plymouth Housing Group--an organization that provides housing to homeless and very low-income people. The cafe is on the first floor of one of their buildings--and has great sandwiches and salads. If your office sometimes orders lunch to be delivered--they also provide that service.
It's an easy way to support a great organization. The food is quite good and reasonably priced. There is a great lighting fixtures in the middle of the cafe--that holds ping pong balls with names of people who have donated to the organization. (I thought that was a cool way to recognize donors.)
They are open for breakfast and lunch. I've had a really good breakfast sandwich there. Check them out.

Boulangerie Nantaise is unfortunately in a place where you could easily walk (or drive) by and not even notice it. However, you would be remiss not to try to find it. Perhaps it's being shown up by Macrina Bakery--which is only 3 blocks away. How lucky is Belltown to have 2 fabulous bakery in its midst!
I was reminded how much I like the bread because Salumi uses the baguettes from here in their sandwiches. Nice, crusty baguettes. Boulangerie Nantaise also has great croissants and other flaky pastries (try the feuillte--a cheesy, buttery pastry). These are not things you would find at Macrina. The sandwiches are also quite good.
(Some history--the bakery used to be called Biofournil but changed its name about a year ago.)

I have walked by this place so many times. In fact, I'm sure lots of people have walked by this place (since it's right behind Starbucks on Green Lake). For once, my friends and I decided to go in and try it out.
The place was much nicer on the inside than one would expect from the dark exterior window. It was also pretty empty (perhaps because everyone walks by rather than walking in).
The spring rolls were good (although a bit on the pricey side). I had the green curry, which was spicy and pretty good. I think all of us enjoyed our meal--but it wasn't fabulous. Just pretty good food for a reasonable price (most dishes were about $7.50--although rice was an extra $1).
So, I don't think I would necessarily recommend it. But, if you're in Green Lake and looking for some Thai--it's a good place to go.

It's located in the Westin Hotel. I haven't been here for dinner--but I did come here for breakfast. We decided against the breakfast buffet, but instead ordered a la carte. I have to say, the food was not that great, considering the cost of the breakfast. I think this is the problem with having breakfast at the hotel--it is as though the hotels know that they have a captive audience (hotel guests who don't know where else to go), so they don't offer great food.
The food may be decent, but I feel like it could be done so much better. And since there aren't that many places in the heart of downtown that serve breakfast, I wish the hotels would do a better job.
But, maybe dinner is better. (Hopefully.)

Sometimes it's just an opportunity to meet the cook book author. But, it's often a lot of fun--and a unique experience.

When you step inside, it has the feel of a basement (perhaps, because it is in essentially a daylight basement). The quality of the fluorescent light is bad. But, the panini sandwich that I had there was delicious. It took some time to wait--but it was worth it. Bread was perfectly grilled and hot, cheese was melted, and the prosciutto was excellent. I will be going back again to check out the rest of the menu. I think the best idea is to order take out--it can feel a bit depressing to stay in there.
